These last couple of weeks I have been so busy actually travelling that there hasn’t been time to write a blog . I had visited Perth on my last trip to Australia and it was good to be back. With a 5 minute walk to the beautiful southern foreshore of the Swan River and a 30 minute walk to the ferry across to Elizabeth Quay, a bus stop and train nearby I was happy to use the excellent public transport system. Every I time I asked the bus driver about a ticket he gave me a concession ticket even though I don’t have a WA card and so for $1.40 I could have a bus and train ride to Mandurah 40 minutes away. Bargain ! Travelling for me is not just new places but seeing old ... read more

Last year for my birthday our friends peter and Leigh Walker (The Kids) as we call them, got me tickets for Perth Zoo, so we always promised ourselves we would have a nice day out together. Now fast forward nearly a year and we still hadn’t used the tickets as we have been so busy and trying to identify a suitable day had been difficult, especially with the work thing and also trying to coordinate the time when the local kids would not be on holiday and we now had nearly run out of time, we had a public holiday weekend so we decided to schedule our visit to see our animal friends. The weather in Perth is hotting up, we are still officially in spring time, until the 1st of December, and so ... read more

So I have now been in Perth 3 weeks... Time does fly! These first 3 weeks have been so amazing, new surroundings, new people, new wildlife, pretty much a new life earn escape from England. Although being slightly disappointed when I come out of the airport to not be welcomed by kangaroos, however I eventually saw some when I went to the zoo! An amazing day out with so many different animals to what there normally is in England! For the first week me and my friend Emma who I met shortly after arriving, went an a whole lot of adventures. Firstly we went a shopping centre nearby called carousel, which has everything I could ever need. Followed by going into the city for the first time that evening and into Subiaco where I got to ... read more

Oy Mate! I have been here in the Outback for about a week and a half, but am just now getting around to writing because things have been so crazy. After my 32 hour trek, I decided a nice long sleep was required as soon as I got here, so I unpacked and did just that. The following days after that were filled with an abundance of new faces, new sights, and new everything. A lot of the people here at Curtin University, which is where I am studying, are international, so for the first few days I met a large number of non-Australian students. Since it was still the Aussie’s winter break, a lot of them were still away on vacation. I came here expecting to go to school with mostly Australians but it’s actually ... read more

We have the finalised itinerary for the trip in 4 more sleeps. We are departing Perth on Thursday evening at 10.30pm on Emirates flight EK 421 and arriving in Dubai at 5.30am. I have been checking the flights over the last few days at this flight always seem to arrive 30 minutes early. Bonus points there as we’ll get an extra 30 minutes of shopping and lounging! Dubai airport has a lot of things to do. Then we are of again leaving Dubai on flight EK 35, Friday morning at 7.20 am and getting to Newcastle at 12.05 pm, just in time for lunch! This flight seems to run on time. Richard’s mum (Mrs Staveley) will be collecting us from the airport with Richard’s sister (Alison). We have one week in Gayle which is in the ... read more

The first week and a half in Perth has been mainly just us settling in, we go to the shopping mall up the road on the bus, we walk around, we have lunch, we come back, apply for jobs. Pretty much the same all week. The on Saturday I had an interview in the city of Perth - Bus, train (we're about 45 minutes south). The interview was at 5.30 but i got all sprused up at 10.30 and we spent the whole day walking around the city. We had lunch, went to the museum, which was pretty good - small but good...pretty much just wasted time and by the time we walked back into the city from the museum to realise the hotel where the interview is was back up where the museum was, i ... read more
