We told a number oif friends that we would visit Denmark just before Christmas. They all had visions of us seeing Princess Mary and her children at the supermarket etc. But we withheld that it was Denmark WA. Anyway, we made our visit and left with a chuckle. The town brochure is all about the greater district and its history and seemingly claiming all interesting sites from Cape Leeuin to Paris. (I exagerate only a little) Anyway, it is a picturesque town on a river with a fabulous park on the banks. The main street is great and a bakery is very well known for its quality breads and cakes. Not cheap, but very yummy and a great crowd queued up to buy. The gem is a little east out of town, so my photos are ... read more

Well the last couple of months we have lived the simple life cut-off from civilization on a remote farm in Denmark, on the south west coast. We really didn’t know what to expect when we headed into the wilderness but it was a totally different experience to anything we have done! There were bugs a plenty, farm animals and laughs as well as many testing times!! After our 7 hour journey to Denmark we were picked up in a rickety van by 3 of the workers already on the farm, the van felt like it might crumble at any point so we were amazed to even reach the farm. We were greeted by 6 fellow workers who we were to share accommodation with – a German couple, 2 South Korean guys and a couple of guys ... read more

29/5/11 Paradise Found… Dear Family and Friends, It has been a while. We arrived in Perth a few weeks ago but had to wait for interviews to join the nursing agency, so while we waited we headed down to the south-west of Western Australia. And, in a place called Denmark, we found paradise! But more of that later… Our first stop was lovely Bunbury where my older brother and sister were born a long, long time ago!! It's right on the beach and is picturesque and pretty, though more than 50 years ago when Mum and Dad were there I imagine it would have been not much more than just a dusty little town. While there, we met a family who insisted we should visit Gnomesville, so of course we did! So what is Gnomesville, you ... read more

After Pemberton we did a quick trip to Manjimup and the Cherry Festival, not much to write about there and we decided as we made for the Shannon National Park to go straight to Walpole and stay in a caravan park for showers and a camp kitchen. At Walpole we negotiated a $10 discount into the dodgier of two caravan parks, the camp kitchen was not worth using, the dryers didn't work and it was all just a bit old and run down. But the people were nice, the view was beautiful and the showers were hot. Belinda prepared us a meal that just passed due to some sun dried tomato pesto and we slept, got up early and got out. We were in a hurry, not because the place was dodgy but because we ... read more

Cloudy and overcast today but predicted to be 29 degrees later in the day. Went for a dip in the ocean at Middleton Beach before heading west again towards Denmark. No there is no Lego here, much to the disappointment of Lachlan and Xavier. A few Kilometres outside Denmark in William Bay National park there are huge granite boulders forming a naturally protected swimming cove. Here we all went snorkeling and saw some beautiful fish which surely are supposed to be in tropical waters. These are NOT tropical waters. Each time a swell came into the cove you would get a little brain freeze, but all in all it was worth the icy conditions. Walking over the rocks we climbed to the next little bay called Elephant Cove. Great huge, red, granite monoliths half submerged in ... read more

24-2-10 Wednesday, today we headed to Albany to go to Centrelink, with that out of the way we then went grocery shopping, got fuel & then did some sight seeing. Albany is a big town & thank goodness for Tom Tom. We ended up at Mutton Bird Beach, what a glorious place. It was a bit of a climb down to the beach , but it was worth it. The sand is so white & the sea is such a myriad of colours. We headed for Denmark & filled up our water containers & went back to Parry’s Beach & unpacked the groceries. I then headed for thr showers as they are Solar & you have to be early to get a hot one. We cooked tea & watched TV. We are very pleased with the ... read more

20-2-10 Saturday , We left Busselton at about 9.30am & said goodbye to a few neighbours, it’s so nice to meet so many people of different backgrounds, jobs, all enjoying travelling. We have made so many great friend along the way, I think our address & email book is bursting at the seems. We wanted to stay somewhere at Margaret River, so we ended up at Big Valley Camp Ground 10 km out of M/River . It is a working Sheep Farm & at the moment it is very dry, the owners have set it up for a Caravan Park & are very nice people. It’s pretty rustic , but has a rural charm ($20 a night) & allows dogs. We set up & had lunch & were pleased with the van how it travelled over ... read more

One car, 4 adults + camping gear for four people = one very tight ride! After Christmas morning breakfast (banana pancakes courtesy of Rita) we packed the car and headed to the South coast of Western Australia in search of fantastic beaches and breathtaking scenery....needless to say we were not disappointed. Though we had a rough idea of what we wanted to see/do, general consensus was that we would all go with the flow and see where the road took us. First stop was Walpole, a town so small it would be missed in the blink of an eye. We had hoped to make it to Albany on our first night but didn't anticipate the fact that EVERY gas station outside of Perth city limits would be closed. Nervous that the gas tank would soon hit ... read more
