We’re back on our travels again! After 7 months in Melbourne living and working we’re off to New Zealand and the start of our last leg of our round the world trip. Melbourne was a fantastic city, we both loved living there. We got a nice big room, with a big balcony, in a share house in Richmond. It was difficult living with eight other people at times but the location was great with cafes, restaurants and bars all really close, including the bar that has been voted the best cocktail bar in Australia and in the top ten bars in the world, Der Raum. We were a short tram journey into the city and a ten minute walk from the MCG. We were both lucky with jobs and although they were very boring it meant ... read more

Hello everyone, Firstly, I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and Boxing Day, and are still enjoying the festive period as we creep towards the New Year. Something happened yesterday which I thought i'd share with you all - Some may find this utterly boring, some may find this utterly amazing - As I did. From the time we booked our flights for our travels, I knew that we'd be in Australia whilst the England Cricket team were touring Australia in The Ashes. I left it as just a thought though, as I never really thought we'd get to see a match, as the Aussies love their cricket and getting tickets would be really hard to come by. Fast forward to Singapore, after having 2 tickets on a plate and neglecting to buy them because ... read more

Dear all our friends and family, We wish you all a very Merry Christmas - You will all be sleeping now waiting for Santa to arrive, but it's 1.30pm here! Unfortunately, the sun hasn't made an appearance today so we're having a TV Marathon (Love Actually, Royle Family, Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special and Miracle on 34th Street!). Amber made a cracking roast on Christmas Eve, and she is currently whisking the mixture for Yorkshire Puddings and reheating the left overs! Yum! We had a lovely Christmas breakfast (Poached eggs on turkish bread with Champagne), the intention was to have Salmon too but it'd been festering in Tim's bedroom for 3 days, it somehow escaped refrigeration! We want to share our Christmas with you as much as possible, so check out the photo's of our Christmas ... read more

Hello from Melbourne, Australia. If you didn't know, we're 11 hours in front of the UK, which means that we know the future before you do. Good eh? We last blogged just as we arrived in to Singapore. Our hostel was probably the nicest we've been in. We had free wi-fi, free breakfast, free tea/coffee/hot chocolate all day, a duvet (our first in 3 months!), a widescreen TV along with a PS3, Nintendo Wii and an unlimited amount of films and air conditioning. Need we say more? Our location we pretty good as well, we were right in the middle of the vibrant Chinatown, and just a stones throw away from the MRT (Singapore's underground system). The hostel was decked out with a Christmas Tree as well so we both felt right at home! Singapore was ... read more

Okay- i have been in this ACMI for a LONG part of the afternoon, but it has free internet and little tv booths where you can watch films ( i watched disney). It was raining outside in Melbourne and i am not sure of the weather now! Quick post. I had a GREAT time in Bangkok. Made loads of friends in the first hostel/ dorm experience of the trip. Bought a lot of cheap clothes, finished my huge book (just about!) and went to an amazing bar (VERTIGO) on the 61st floor of a hotel. Australia so far, seems very QUIET. Like there is a muffling to the noise of the city. It is as if there are not enough people in the city! (compared to London and SE Asia) Everything is well designed and people ... read more

I know what you’re all thinking, "Oh no Tom and his blogs are back"! And yes they are!! This time you can follow me on my adventures and antics through South America. Starting in Argentina I plan to head south and then work my way up through Chile, Bolivia, and Peru and hopefully get to Colombia!! Well the time has come and as much as I’m going to miss Melbourne I’m also really excited about what I’ve got planned for the next few months. Melbourne has been absolutely amazing, I could have never thought this time last year when I was breaking the news to mum and dad that I was moving out here, that it was going to be this much fun and I was going to meet so many awesome people. For those of ... read more

We arrived back in Melbourne to find that the weather had certainly changed since we left…it was 7PM and the temperature was somewhere in the mid 30s. We had booked accommodation for the next 10 days in a St. Kilda flat, which was really central, just off the main street. It seems that the entire population of Melbourne descends on St. Kilda for hot Sunday afternoons so by the time we had fought through the traffic everyone was feeling hot and bothered…and the beer that came before dinner went down very nicely! Anyway, we met up with Caroline’s Uncle and Aunt for a lovely meal before retiring to our new digs - which were mercifully cool despite not having air conditioning. The ladies spent the next week discovering sunny Melbourne….especially the trams and the coffee shops! ... read more

Hello again, the last 10 days have been quite busy. First things first, we bought (very) second hand bikes on gumtree - mine's a lovely purple number while Caroline's is silver...peeling to a tasteful turquoise. A good bit of recycling though (no pun intended) - I think these bikes have seen a lot of Australia - most recently in the hands of helpful Henrik from Norway and a very nice girl called Bea from London. We've since peddled them round lots, including the road in Albert Park where they hold the grand prix (I won). We've also peddled along the River Yarra - both into town and upstream into some very pretty parks with amazing views of the city. Last Sunday we joined up with a group from the YHA for a very sunny walk along ... read more

Day 1: Our flight to Melbourne is at 8.45am and our flatmate Jacki kindly offers to drive us to the airport on her way to work, even though it is in the opposite direction. We are cutting it fine as per usual and get there with only 5 minutes left to spare to check in. The airport is even busier than Glasgow airport and I have a feeling we won’t make it in time but then a guy from the airport asks if anyone is still waiting to check in for the Melbourne flight, and thankfully we manage to get through. The flight is a doddle and we get to Melbourne about 50 minutes later. We wait for our luggage to come off and start to worry when one by one the people around us start ... read more
