We've moved. We now live 7 minutes from the MCG on foot and about 5 minutes on the train from the city centre. We have been making the most of being jobless (don't tell Uncle Jay!) and have been mostly reading in the park, wandering around aimlessly (well we're pretending to explore new places but more often it's aimless wandering!) and sitting on the beach. We had a bit of a heat wave earlier in the week so have made the most of it as the first week we were here was really autumnal (and blooming cold). John has got a bike and I'm looking for one, the city is a bit too big to get around on foot so we thought bikes were the way to go, we shall wait and see what I can ... read more

We arrived in Melbourne from Tasmania, got to our hostel only to find that we were locked out! The owner had gone to Swedish church or something or other and had left someone else with instructions for us and our room - only they obviously didn't care!! The owner arrived back just in time for us to dump our bags and head to the AFL game in the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Melbourne played against Fremantle who were both bottom of the league at that point, Melbourne having lost all six games that season and Fremantle having won just 1 from 6! Melbourne were down 26-76 at half time and came back to win 119-113 so it was a pretty good game and we were allowed on the pitch afterwards which was pretty cool! On our way ... read more

Well...here I am, at 2 am, finally taking a breath to update this blog. This week is absolutely insane, which I'm happy about but realize that very little sleep is going to be taking place again this week. This weekend was pretty usual, meaning that it was fun and it went quickly. Friday night we went into the city to the trade bar where the drinks worked like the stock market. The more people bought them, the prices went up and vice versa. It was pretty cool- until Theresa started getting sick and the bouncer kicked us out- that is! We caught the tram back to campus after this and I stayed up for a while talking to my roommate and then went to bed. Saturday, I woke up and headed down into the city to ... read more

Well hello there! Sorry it has been a while, been pretty busy settling in here in beautiful Melbourne! It's a really cool city, has kind of a European feel to it, very multicultural and lots to do. The shopping is so good, unfortunatley finances have permitted mainly window shopping only! Yes I am skint, VERY skint! I did a couple of shifts in a cafe to get me some fast cash and do you know how much the guy paid me... $10 an hour (about 4.20 in pounds) so I was none too happy, bloody slave labour! So now I have gone back to what I do best, my budding legal career.... yeah right! I am pulling pints and carrying plates again. The pub is quite big and a LOT different from Bonhams, for one ... read more

Well, the answer is Melbourne. After farewelling Elizabeth in the gala style we have all become accustomed to, I settled back into life in Tasmania for hmmm... about 2 weeks. Then it was back to New Zealand for ANOTHER fabulous holiday! This time to the west coast and it was absolutely wonderful. Fresh fish every day, a long bike ride (that Lisa enjoyed more than anyone, right Lis?) a absolutely stunning coastline, pancake rocks, greenstone gems and lots and lots more! I'm already planning my next trip :-) Then there was a brief trip to Sydney where I stayed with David - following the theory that the reason why you travel is to meet more people and give yourself more accommodation options for further travel ;-) I got more than I bargained for with a very ... read more

Well what can I say I just luuurve Melbourne!! Great City, stayed in East Malvern for a few nights which was about 30 minutes from the city and then moved onto East Richmond for a few nights which was more central and only a few stops from the Central Business District which is where its all happening! Went on a free tram around the city and also on a cruise along the river and caught some of the nightlife which was fantastic. The highlight of my time here has to be the Formula 1 Grand Prix which was on the Sunday (18th), it was the final day and it has to be added to my best days list! We got there early, about 8.30am to make the most of the day and had a wonder ... read more
