Wow. I can't believe it is March already & the last time I wrote an entry was at the beginning of Feb! I can tell I have been avoiding checking my email, writing emails & putting any sort of update on here. I think things will get better as I get more settled. I am still waiting to move into my flat and stop living out of my suitcase. Only 11 more days to go! woo!! Currently I am staying at a small hostel that calls itself "HolidayCamp" ??? Your guess is as good as mine! As an exercise in learning how to use an online discussion forum for one course we had to post 2 truths & 1 lie about ourselves for the class to read & debate. Here was one of mine: "I live ... read more

Hello again everybody, sorry it's been a while but Melbourne turned out to be a blur of work, coffee and cake over the past month! Thankfully the bank account is a little fuller after a short working break, but so are our waistlines after sampling one too many foccaccias and cheesecakes at the Paris-style cafes of the city. Melbourne's weather has enjoyed playing games with us over past weeks, being a lovely chilly 20 degrees some days, followed by three days of scorching, Brit-sizzling 40 degrees - to say we were wilting would be an understatement! Luckily for James' birthday on the 12th Feb (just a reminder for those who missed it!) we had some fab weather and so had a weekend of fun. The aussie queen, Dame Edna Everage, (Kylie is the Princess for those ... read more

Our actual New Year's Eve party was held at Jussi's & Emma's flat in Richmond. There was tons of food and great company. Even Emma's dad who had not had a drink for several years decided to join Sampsa in a shot of Mescal Tequila! Unfortunately I was feeling quite tired and feverish, I guess I had a bit too much sun or something like that so I called it a fairly early night and left for my hotel shortly after midnight. On my way I did get to spot some of the hustle and bustle in the centre of town. Ikävä kyllä minun vointi oli aika ... read more

Brrr, the weather was very chilly, so being back on the road again wasn't ideal, especially was The Beast has a cracked muffler meaning that carbon monoxide could potentially be leaked into the car, so we had to drive with the windows down at all times - oh the joys of backpacker cars! The stunning scenery did something towards making up for the frostbite but thankfully it only took 2 days to reach Melbourne, a lot less than anticipated, as I was starting to wonder how much longer I could cope with the 3 of us crammed into a 2 man tent for body heat! We were heading to Melbourne for various reasons but primarily to catch up with Kate, Claire and Tim who we'd met a Hoa's Place in Vietnam. The girls very kindly agreed ... read more

Well, here it is. My 31st year on the planet. It's not as bad as everyone said it would be to be honest. I don't feel old and I'm having a massive adventure so as far as milestones go, it feels pretty goood. By a strange quirk of fate, my birthday fell on the same day as Melbourne Cup day. The Melbourne Cup is basically the biggest sporting event in the country. And this is a pretty sports-mad country. The state of Victoria gives its citizens a day off work for the races and the rest of the country pretty much grinds to a halt as well. The Grand National is nothing compared to this. Since I'd heard that my birthday and the race were on the same day, that was how I wanted to celebrate ... read more

"Excuse ladies and gentlemen, we apologise for interupting your flight, but is there a doctor, nurse or trained medical professional on board, if so, could you please report to one of our cabin crew. Thank you" Now I know what your thinking, surely you've not been watching Airplane again Graham. Well no, I haven't been overdosing on spoof flight movies. And don't call me Shirley. Sorry 'bout that. Anyway, the above was what we actually heard half way through an already terrifying flight from Perth to Melbourne. Lee and i aren't the greatest flyers in the world. There are emu's over here that are better flyers than us to be honest. I hate taking off and Lee hates landing, which doesn't leave much room for enjoying any part of a flight but for us to get ... read more
