Hi gorgeous dancers, I had a lovely day out to Phillip Island where I met some very friendly kangaroos and wallabies :) I tried to take one home but unfortunately you're not allowed to do that, not sure why?! I have attached some photos for you all to see. After a lovely day exploring the beautiful beaches and taking in the lovely scenery I visited 'Penguin Parade', this was extremely special. There is a part of Phillip Island where you can view wild penguins returning from a days fishing at sea to their babies in their burrows. They are the world's smallest penguin and are quite simply called 'Little Penguin' or the Australian's refer to them as the 'Fairy Penguin' because they are so tiny! They arrived home in small groups. One or two penguins would ... read more

My second day in Melbourne was nice. Woke up early and headed out to Federation Square. Walked out to Chinatown and had some really good Japanese curry for cheap. Then made our way to Churchill Island, saw some wallabies, went to the Koala Conservation Centre, Heritage Farm, and Phillip Island to see the Little Penguins. There were so cute, all 800 of them. They basically waddle their way from the shore to the beach and into their burrows as you walk along the boardwalk. Then got back to the city and had to make sure I made a trek to Red Pepper Indian Restaurant, as recommended by the people I met last night in the Italian restaurant. I went there, it was cheaper than expected ($19.50 for a curry, naan, rice and samosas), and absolutely delicious! ... read more

Waking up at 4 am had never been so easy. After attempting to fall asleep failed multiple times, we watched TV for a few hours, then fell asleep, only to awaken ten minutes before breakfast ended. Luckily for us, we made it on time. After breakfast, we headed over to the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), which is the outdoor stadium where they play cricket during the summer and Footy (football) over the winter. We caught the train at Southern Cross Station which was conveniently located across the street from the Vibe. We took a tour of the MCC led by an older man who was a member and had an obvious passion for the sport. WE learned about some of the famous players and their accomplishments, got to touch the grass on the field, learned ... read more

We are having a most wonderful time.  The people here are overly helpful.  Our running joke is ask and you shall receive because people are so accommodating and patient with us foriegners to the point that sometimes you don't even have to ask.  If you look confused they will just approach you and offer help.  We spent Christmas on Manly Beach in Sydney with hundreds of aussies dressed in santa hats, dresses and bikini's, and yes there was a lot of shrimp on the barbie.  We also got to snorkel.  We took a different ferry out to Bondi and Coogee Beaches from the Harbour (awesome view of the Opera house and bridge) but most of our time in Sydney it was rainy.  Once we got to Melbourne it was a sweltering 40 degrees celsius which is almost ... read more

This weekend was World Superbikes at Philip Island and it happened to fall on my birthday. We had such a lovely weekend at philip island - weather was great saturday but Sunday let us down with the morning rain and it was back to getting the old kaa-gools out and gettin slightly soaked. We still enjoyed it though and the wet track made it all the more exciting! .....few falls! What made it for me was the huge ice cream that I was bought me.....no seriously it was having my photograph taken with one of the riders - Tom Sykes and getting his autograph and one for Richie's dad! Just a shame i couldnt have got Leon Haslams too!! ;-) When we arrived back to our relations, there was a surprise bbq waiting for us with ... read more

So now I'm in Australia once again and this time my first stop is Melbourne, Victoria. I arrived after my Qantas flight from Christchurch to Sydney and a overnight train journey to Melbourne's Southern Cross Station. I am staying with Paul and his Parents John & Chris just outside the main area of Melbourne called Beveridge. Paul & his girlfriend Allison were on the same tour in Vietnam and had invited me to stay if ever l was in Melbourne and l was pleased to take up their offer. During the afternoon Paul and his mum took me for a drive around their local area and was amazed that about 5 minutes away is the Childhood home of the Infamous Ned Kelly. Ned Kelly Edward "Ned" Kelly (3 June 1854 - 11 November 1880) was an ... read more

14th August 2008 - Penguin Parade! On Philip Island everyday without fail about 500 Little Penguins come ashore at approx 6pm each night and burrow into the sand dunes for the night....and each day approx 500 hundred visitors come and sit quietly to watch them..... This was the main highlight of our tour today - to watch the penguin parade as it is known! It was very good to watch the penguins but a bit too commercial for my liking. I'm afraid we don't have any photos though as you can't take pictures! But me and Amy have done a reconstruction for you with two stuffed toys we were given on the tour. Unfortunately Amy's first penguin Philip was deformed he had dodgy eyes and a bent flipper....Amy asked the tour guide for another but ... read more

(I apologise now for the blurry photos i have attached. However, they were all taken with my phone so bad quality should be expected.) So when my Boss said that he needed someone to go and visit some Universities in Australia, I volunteered! Being summer in Oz, I had difficulty finding appropriate clothes to pack. I hadn’t needed a skirt or singlet for about 7 months and now I was 26 hours away from 30-40 degree sun. I couldn’t wait!!!! I hadn’t told mum and dad that I was coming back for a visit. They knew that I would be home at some stage, but I thought that it would be kind of fun to surprise them. I told my brothers in great confidence that I was coming back so as they could arrange for me ... read more
