We were up early and were treated to an absolutely fabulous sunrise as we slipped away from our campsite. Today we would travel past the Coorong - an area that I had not visited previously and I was keen to see what it was like (although a 4WD is recommended for travelling in the area). The Coorong is a string of saltwater lagoons which are sheltered from the Southern Ocean by sand dunes. The wetlands provide refuge for many water birds and is a breeding site for Pelicans. After the Coorong, we headed across to Murray Bridge and then along the freeway to Adelaide. We detoured to Hahndorf for coffee and for a brief sightsee, before driving carefully down the very steep freeway into Adelaide. Heavy vehicles are required to travel in the left lane at ... read more

We headed off from Mallala this morning and got about 40 kms down the road when Rudi phoned and asked if we could come to Adelaide and sort everything out, so we turned about and headed back in. Cruisemaster were very unhelpful and would only pay for 4 new shock absorbers so Rudi and Delores had to bear the brunt of the compensation and they really proved how they care about their customers. We have been very lucky that they give excellent after sales service. We came to a very amicable agreement and parted on very good terms with them. In fact the whole exercise was conducted in a calm and reasonable manner which is fantastic considering my volatile temper and you may not believe it but I live in fear of GMan's temper. We would ... read more

John came home from work and said he had a bad toothache on the tooth he had a root canal job on back in Geraldton only about 3 months ago - we were not impressed - managed to get an appoitment the next day with a dentist in Port Augusta - just before we went to bed he said the tooth felt loose. He woke me up about 4am and said the tooth has just fallen out and now the pain was gone. We cancelled the appointment and the gum has healed up well. Quite a relief. On Friday we settled in for the big wedding (William and Kate of course), setting our chairs up outside the door of the caravan as it was still quite warm outside - the people in the next caravan came ... read more

There are no photos to accompany this entry as I did not want to make anyone ill. I did get a photo of the offending restaurant but chose not to include it for fear of being sued! It was so bad that it deserves an entry all of its own.... Arriving in Port Pirie Andy spotted a seafood restaurant he wanted to go to for lunch. We don’t eat out much and Andy was very eager to try the scallops and prawns. We waited excitedly but what we got when our order arrived looked like a kids meal in a service station. The only thing that could have made it more like a kids menu special would have been the choice of peas or baked beans! Everything was previously frozen and battered or for the slightly ... read more

It was another long, long drive from Coober Pedy until we reached civilisation at Port Augusta. It had rained so much that the city had flooded and caused what looked like a brown swimming pool to form across the road. Australia...you can't handle the rain. The journey continued on to Port Germein. The home of the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere... and not much else. As we pulled into the camp, there was an old rusty bicycle chained to a tree reading 'emergency vehicle only'. In any other town, I would have taken this as a joke but here, I wasn't so sure. Because of the rain, we couldn't sleep in our swags so were given a chalet type thing with two rooms. One with three bunks all piled on top of each other ... read more

A year off to sort out our new home and now we are back at it! On Sunday the 2nd May we hitched up the van started the new adventure. “Go West Young Man” …….as they say in the classics. And Barb, no stats on the car this time! There is one very important issue we had to address though. We have a little Princess in our lives now and we will miss Elizabeth Georgia Pretty very much. However, she is young enough not to miss us at this stage so we are doing a quick 4-5 month dash around the ‘paddock’ so we can be back in time to see her learn to walk. By then she may even get to really know Nanny and Pa even though she loves them both dearly now . ... read more

13-4-10 Tuesday Up & away we headed for Port Augusta to pick up our mail. We stopped on the foreshore & it was very nice. We then stopped at Port Germein & we walked the longest wooden Jetty in Australia. It is now 1500mt long, it used to be 1600mt but a section fell off. It was a long walk there & back 3km (had my exercise for today) Poor Jake did not make it he has a sore leg from yesterday. We could not find a suitable camp area so we stopped at Port Pirie to ask & all the van parks were booked out as the Master’s Games were on. So we went looking the other side of town & we could not find anything, so we found a dirt rd & we dove ... read more
