Where do I start. Having not eaten red meat in years and not really even liking the feel of meat it will be a bit of a shock to you all back home that I managed to take part in the killing and butchering of a cow!!! I actually got off lightly as Russ told me when I first arrived at the station that I would be helping with the butchering but one of his friends is over at the moment and he helped with that bit instead!! However I was present for it all from the killing to chopping it up to even helping by holding the meat back whilst they cut and helping hanging it in the cold room!! I even managed to surprise myself as I thought I'd pass out, not being so ... read more

I arrived at Brisbane early Thursday morning hoping for better weather! Instead I got rain and had to wait in the airport for 4 hours to be picked up as there had been a mix up!! Onwards and upwards, the guy from Outbackpackers was really nice and took me to my hostel then on into town to sort my visa and phone sim etc. I then got to meet up with the rest of the people on the same course as me. We spent the next few days looking around Brisbane and having a bit of a rest before Monday and the start of our training. How wrong were we!! because of all the rain the ranch was flooded and they were unable to run the course so we had to wait a week!! I managed ... read more

Drove off the Ship and Headed up the Coastline of Victoria, had a bit of a drive and arrived at midnight in Johnsonville at my god parents house. Thank goodness we were there for a couple of days as the weather was extremely hot. Their house is on the banks of the Tambo River, a very beautiful place. Thanks Merlyn and Bruce for having us. On the road again to the High Country to set up camp for Easter. Found a great free campsite at Victoria River Falls, Across the road from Cobungra Stn where the Geebung Polo match is held. My cousin Greg and Neda arrived the next day and Ben, Kim and Jake of Saturday. Off to the Omeo Rodeo with lovely warm weather after a freezing day before. Famous for the Tree of Knowledge, and as everyone knows was poisoned and is now dead. It is situated in front of the railway station. In 1891 the Great Shearers Strike was under way and their meetings were held under the tree. Also in the early days it served as the main meeting place for t6he twonspeople and was known as the Alleluia Tree because the Salvation Army used to meet under its leafy boughs. The main street of Barcaldine has five hotels, a couple of them I have photographed. The next town that we passed through before Longreach is Ilfracombe. The locals describe the entry to the town as "the Great Machinery Mile" as it has an amazing lineup of historic machinery for more than a kilometre along the side of the highway, some photos ... read more

Hi to everyone, hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, for us it was very quiet, we hope you all have a prosperous and safe New Year. Don had a few days off between Xmas and New Year, so we decided to take a trip to Longreach - 400klms inland from Emerald right in the centre of Queensland. Talk about good timing after weeks of temperatures around 45deg C the three days we were there was only around 24degC, perfect. We stayed in the Gunnadoo Caravan Park in a cabin, very nice. Population of Longreach is around 3,000. Anyway will tell you more about it as I would like to show you some photos of our 5 hour trip to Longreach. As I don't know how many photos are allowed per entry, will do another entry ... read more
