1st November 2012, Woke up to a beautiful view of the ocean. Pity we cannot swim in ocean because of the crocs (although we have not seen any yet!). We are finally going up to the tip this morning (so excited!!!!). The local Aboriginal people call the tip Pajinka. After a leisurely breakfast we left Taylor behind at the campsite and drove unattached to the tip of Australia. The drive was magnificent, like a mini Daintree Forest. We drove as far as we could and parked by the beach. From there, it was about a 20 minute walk to the Northern most point of Australia. Reaching the tip of Australia was an amazing feeling that words cannot describe, a sense of accomplishment. I hope the girls cherish this moment forever as Daniel and I will. Of ... read more

It rained overnight which was cooling. Early start as we wanted to view Eliot and Twin Falls before we head off to Cape York. Eliot and Twin Falls were awesome. Warm, crystal clear spring fed water flowing over rocks to provide us with that picturesq view. You could never find a place like this in Sydney!!! After another swim, we headed off on our quest to the tip. Back on the Old Telegraph Track, our first obstable was was a water crossing about 40 meters long and at least a meter deep. There was a track which bypassed this crossing but that was rather steep and clayish. Daniel decided it was time to put the snorkle to the test. Again, Pedro and Taylor made it look easy. Next creek crossing didn't look too bad except for ... read more

We were getting very excited as we were about to venture on the Old Telegraph Track. Had a chat with a staff member and we were informed that if we could manage the first obstacle (Palm Creek), we should not have any problems with the rest of the track until after Eliot Falls. We were recommended to take the bypass road after Eliot Falls as many have been stuck. Apparently over 20 4wd's have been pulled out by the local tow truck operator who charges anywhere up to $5000!!! We took this advise very seriously. We departed Moreton Telegraph Station and soon arrived at the Bramwell Junction Roadhouse, which is the intersection leading into the Old Telegraph Track. Our first obstacle was a small, smelly muddy crossing. Next stop was Palm Creek crossing, which involved a ... read more

29th October 2012, Departed Musgrave Station and took a casual drive towards Coen. Stopped here for lunch and fuel. Since there was reception, we caught up with school homework and blogging. We also managed to book our e-campsite for the Jardine National Park (Elliot Falls). Drove to Moreton Telegraph Station and camped for the night. We were the only campers there and the station will be closing for the season next week (start of the wet season).... read more

We were headed up North from Cairns on our way to the tip when we made our way into Lakefield National Park towards Old Faithful Waterhole campsite. The drive in was dry and the roads were well maintained with a few corrugations, I could feel the relaxation spreading through my bones already. The great outdoors, is there any place you would rather be? Our campsite was revealed after a good drive through bushland that was literally burning before our eyes - wildfires everyhwere. I decided not to be alarmed by this and to assume the tough outer shell of a real Aussie bush camper. Besides, we were going to a waterhole which would provide refuge in the event of a full blown bush fire. Eventually, beyond the charred eucalypts and thick smokey air, we found our ... read more

Well as they say better late than never and here we are on our way down to Tasmania and we are just writing about our Cape York Trip. On 2nd September we were picked up from the Caravan Park where we were staying in Cairns by a couple of guys from OzTours (the tour company for our trip) and whom we found out later were the Owner and General Manager and they didn’t say a word and we would never have picked it. The trip started by us travelling on the supply ship “MV Trinity” up to Seisia which is the port for Bamaga up the top of Cape York. The supply ship drops off supplies on the way up at Lockhart River (an aboriginal community) and both Horn and Thursday Islands. There are containers, cars, ... read more

18-8-11 up early & left Alau Beach & had a really good run. Had lunch at Bramwell Junction for lunch & then pushed on to Archer River Roadhouse, where we decided to but tea as we did not want to unpack too much. What a meal we had a 750gm Rump steak, salad & chips $32 each but worth every delicious mouthful. Decided to have an early night & guess what !!!! the locals were down at the river drinking & singing & playing up till 4am, no one got ant sleep, then the big trucks took off, so we were all feeling a bit out of sorts. Did 382km today. It was 33 deg today but nights are cool. 19-8-11 off early & had a really good run, we could not believe the number of ... read more

14-8-11 Paul showed us how to fix the fishing lines up for fishing at the Cape, had some lunch, then at 1.45 pm the Helicopter landed on the our beach to fly us over the Cape. The 3 girls went first, Marg, Fiona & I & we spent 40 mins flying up the coast & around the Tip & back again. The views & the scenery were spectacular even though it was a bit hazy from burning off. We landed & then Warwick, Dennis & Paul went on their flight. $190 each & well worth it. Margy & the boys went for a fish, but no luck. We had crayfish tails for tea & it was like a 4 star restaurant. We were just getting ready for bed & Den & Warwick killed 2 Cane Toads ... read more

15-8-11 today we went to Mutee Heads to have a sausage sizzle & try our luck at fishing with Paul & Fiona. It is a beautiful spot, white sands & not many people there. We still did not catch a fish & it was very hot. Had an early night but got woken up with the locals having a party on the beach. 16-8-11 off to the Tip today. We started out & the road was so rough, we got to the Croc Tent to get a free map & spent over $200 on souvenirs. We drove the next 17km through a very narrow road & rain to get to the car park at the Tip. We climbed over lots of rocks for about 20 mins before we finally got to the Tip. There was an ... read more

8/8/11 took off from Weipa to travel on the Batavia Downs Road, which will save us about 100 km. The road is rough & corrugated & dusty, but what’s new. We stopped at the Wenlock River & had lunch at Morton Telegraph Station & then went to spend the night at Bramwell Junction Roadhouse. It was hot, about 30 deg but the nights are cool, it was $20 per night & we had a shower & loo & we were under a picnic shelter. We did 190 km today. 9/8/11 up early & got a shot of the cars on the Old Telegraph Track & then it was time to go to Elliot Falls. The road is pretty cut up & it took a while to go 127 km. We stopped at the turn off & ... read more
