We left Punsand Bay and headed down. We ended up at The Bend in Coen, next to a river or creek. Coming down I found a coconut and tried to crack it open. I couldn’t, so I will ask Dad if he could get it open for me to try it maybe. I am doing my writing, updated my travelblogs. It is hot up here and we’re wearing shorts, short sleeves and thongs. We get dirty feet as well as clothes, so we have to wash our feet a lot. In the morning, I asked if my Dad to open the coconut and he has already done it. I ate some of the coconut, and it tasted nice, just like coconut. I had to put it in the bin because we were leaving and there is ... read more

Daintree Rainforest/Cape Tribulation, Queensland, Australia My second day in Cairns, Australia was spent visiting Cape Tribulation/Daintree Rainforest. It was beautiful! Because I had to get up pretty early in the morning (I think we left around 0600), I was able to see the sunrise on the ocean. Very pretty. We then crossed into the the Daintree Rainforest/Cape Tribulation National Park by taking on of Australia's last remaining car ferries across the Daintree River. We then drove through lowland and tropical rainforests until we came to Cape Tribulation; it is only a small section of the Daintree National Park. Interestingly, the Daintree Cape Tribulation coast is where the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree rainforest meet. This is the only place on earth where two World Heritage areas exist side by side. I had lunch in a ... read more

Yesterday I took an amazing day trip up to the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. I woke up at 7am, got picked up at 7:30 and was gone until 7pm. It was a long day, but completely amazing. It was the first rainforest I’d ever been to. The guide was a nice girl who actually grew up in Cape Tribulation, so she knew a lot about it. I was bombarded with a ton of information all day, most of which I can’t really remember, but the scenery was amazing and I took almost 200 pictures. We started the trip with a walk through a small national park part of the rainforest where you could see small waterfalls and go swimming. I didn’t go in the water because it was still 9am in the morning, but it ... read more

Cape Tribulation gehört zum UNESCO-Welterbe des Great Barrier Reef.... read more

The Daintree Rainforest area up to Cape Tribulation is absolutely stunning. The rainforest is just magical place to be and there some fantastic rainforest walks and swimming holes up there. One in particular is the much photographed Mossman Gorge, a stunning part of the rainforest with moss covered streams running into the Mossman river. The river is a great swimming area with sandy banks and deep plunge pools. We spent a few hours there chilling out and swimming in the water. Continuing north you cross the Daintree River by ferry and immediately drive into the rainforest. North of the river ferry there is no mains power and the roads are narrow and winding. It feels like you are in semi-wilderness amongst the rainforest. We drove up the sealed road to Cape Trib past fantastic lookouts and ... read more

The main attractions in Cairns are not the city itself, but the surroundings. Up in the mountains is a little village called Kuranda. The journey up to the village is by narrow gauge railway and the journey back is by cable car. The village is set up high in the mountains and is a funky little place full of art and craft shops. We bought Gavin and Leigh's wedding present here and shipped it back to Skye! The drive from Cairns to Port Douglas was spectacular and almost as nice as the Great Ocean Road in places. The road follows the side of the mountain and the ocean weaves in and out of sight. It's a shame it's the main northern highway as you want to spend time admiring the views. Port Douglas is a great ... read more

07/05/09 Thursday Day 265 Cape Tribulation First stop this morning was Four Mile Beach. Nothing special really. It’s just another beach. I suppose the bad weather we’re currently having doesn’t give a good impression of the beach. We then headed north from Port Douglas and crossed the Daintree river by cable ferry. Basically there’s two steel ropes, one either side of the ferry, which the ferry actually winds on and pulls us across the river. It only takes a few minutes to cross the river anyway. There’s some amazing views of the valley as you drive along the road to the Daintree Discovery Centre. In here there’s a couple of short walks around the rainforest. They also give you an audio tour yoke that looked like a very old mobile phone. Some interesting facts in the ... read more

April 5th: I had heard many great things about Cape Tribulation since arriving in Cairns and so I decided to go on a day trip to explore its great beauty alone, as Kevin decided to pass. Cape Tribulation is a headland located within Daintree National Park and contains some of the vast Daintree Rainforest. Cape Tribulation was named by James Cook in 1770. It was named as such after Captain Cook’s ship ran aground on the reef just off the cape, with Cook writing in his journal “because here began all our troubles”. The Daintree Rainforest runs over 1200 square kilometers and is the largest continuous area of rainforest on the Australian mainland. It is over 135 million years old, the oldest rainforest in the world. It contains a huge variety of wildlife, plants and insects, ... read more

4 and a half hours from Undara Park, we arrived at Cape Tribulation in the Daintree rain forest. We chose to observe the rain forest from a higher point of view. It started by getting harnessed up. Then we hiked up a mountain trail to the first platform. Jonathan (aka Rambo) was the first victim. Mom (aka Paris Hilton) and Adam (Batman) followed closely behind. The guides for this experience were quite the characters and were always reassuring (not). With comments like the cables usually don't break or yelling "wait!" after a person was launched 20 meters above the jungle floor, kept the mood lively and light. After the first flight, we confident on the ropes. We met some fellow Canadians from Alberta that showed us how to lick green ant's butts for vitamin 'C'. Weird...but ... read more
