The Daintree Rainforest is located on Cape Tribulation, north of Cairns. We took a 2 day trip to see what the area had to offer. After pickup it was off to the small town of Port Douglas where we stopped for 45 minutes so the hungover passengers amonst us could get some Coke & chocolate. As we had booked to spend the 3 nights after the tour in Port Douglas it was nice to get a quick look at the place. From Port Douglas it was onto Mossman Gorge in the Daintree itself. We were taken on a 1 hour guided walk through the rainforest which was good. The warm tropical weather made the swim in the river at the end of the walk all the more enjoyable ! Next on the agenda was a short ... read more

Got to Cape Trib on coral reef coaches from PD at 10.30 which left just enough time to pop to the Sunday market and buy some fresh local pineapple for breakfast- ummmm. The 2hr journey included a ferry trip croc-spotting on the Daintree river- luckily none to be found today. On the bus met Jackie and Hugh- a couple of conservation students. Hugh was an avid twitcher on the Cassowary trail and had just come from doing some work experience with frogs (cute!). (I know frogs arent birds by the way...) Anyway I knew I was only gonna be around for 2 nights so went tour crazy and booked myself onto everything. First up- tropical fruit farm for exotic fruit tasting- Pomello, Black Sapote and lemon meringue pie fruit! Then went for a night walk. I ... read more

Today we went up to Cape Tribulation north of Cairns for 2 nights, stopping off at some falls and at Port Douglas on the way. Luce and I did a really good horse trek on the beach and lounged about sunbathing and swimming at the hostel, which was more like a resort. We also spent a lot of time at a really nice rainforest cafe where we could eat, use the internet and where i found a book called "Is Elvis Alive?" which kept me amused for several days! LOL! We had 2 lovely people in our dorm - Moshe, an Israeli, and a French girl, Helene - so we hung out with them a lot and had a very funny night out at a local bar talking to some drunken locals and having to walk ... read more

There are no excuses for sitting around in Cairns and the next tour was to Cape Tribulation. There are two places that you can stay; Crocodilos or the Jungle Lodge. Ever indecisive, I opted for a night in each. Crocodilos was very, well, nice. If you wanted a pretty place to stay, then you can look no further. If you wanted a bit of excitement then you would be VERY disappointed. Everyone was either sitting around reading books or going on nature trails (and I had had enough of nature trails), and to top it all, it rained. In the evening we played Trivial Pursuit which was a complete nightmare as it was the Australian version and none of us knew any of the answers. Unable to contain my excitement I took an early night which ... read more
