When we thought about booking this trip we instantly added Australia Zoo to our things to do list coz we are both such big kids!! So excited to find it was just a short (ish) bus journey from Brizzy!! Well what can I say... this zoo shits all over chester zoo!! Even though it rained we still had a boss day, we got to feed the Elephants and Kangaroo's :-) the Roo's are dead friendly come right over to you but not scary at all!! We were tempted to put the baby wallaby in our bag though! The highlight of the day was holding our new friend 'Slater' the Koala, literally the cutest thing ever... even if he did have a nasty stench of fruity B.O. he still got a cuddle of us!! I'll never forget ... read more

After a great time on Fraser Island, we made our way down to Brisbane (Monday morning). We had 2 days in Brisbane and had decided to go to the Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin’s Zoo) on one of those days. Because the zoo is about 70km north of Brisbane we decided to go there straight from Hervey Bay, which meant an early start, as it was about a 3 hour drive! But that wasn’t hard to do (getting up early) as the rain came down hard that night and into the morning. I must say that we have got putting up and taking down the tent, in the rain, down to a fine art. But this is getting beyond a joke. Ha ha!!! We got to the zoo shortly after it opened (Billy’s driving throughout this trip ... read more

We were out the door by 6:50am at the Montville Holiday Apartments headed to the Town Hall Australia Day breakfast. Montville is such a cute little town with historical buildings and was celebrating the National Holiday with a Town Hall breakfast. When we arrived the food smelled so good and it was nice to be a part of such a neat celebration. We went through the food line that had bread, sausage links, bacon, fried eggs, tomatoes, fruit and tea. The town hall had tables and chairs set up inside and everyone was so friendly that sat at our table. Everyone wanted to know where we were from since we don’t have the typical Australian accent. Around 7:45am we headed to the Australia Zoo that opens at 9am and was about a 20 minute drive down ... read more

Up early again this morning in order to get the City Cat to Riverside before walking to Central Station, unfortunately we missed the first City Cat which in turn made us late for the first train of the day. We had to wait an hour before catching the train heading to Nambour and we would depart at Beerwah, where a courtesy coach would be waiting to take us on to Australia Zoo. First impressions -WOW! There was no queuing and as the owner of the hostel lent us his discount card we saved 20%. First stop the Crocoseum, en route we encountered people feeding the elephants, rhinoceros iguanas and beautiful scenery. Once in the Crocoseum we were entertained whilst waiting for Bindi to arrive to do her singing and dancing on stage - what an entrance ... read more

At Australia Zoo we saw lots and lots of animals. There were Red Pandas, Pythons, Echidnas, Cassowaries, Camels, Tasmanian Devils, Otters, American Alligators and of course Crocodiles. Their names were Charley, Amy, Bluey, Casper, Acco, Connie, Agro, Cookie, Scrappa, Weipa and Lucy. We went to Roo Heaven and you could pat a kangaroo and I patted one laying down saying “pat me”. It was just like patting a dog. At the shop on the way out, I got to cuddle a koala and had a photo taken. Then they brought out the Macaw and a Black Cockatoo. I got a photo holding them too! They were very, very heavy on my arms. ... read more

On the way to the Gold Coast we went to Australia Zoo. “Crikey” it was good! It was clean and there were a lot of animals. I enjoyed it. There were some the lizards that were running around the paths. One went in with the crocodiles and others posed happily for photos. We saw a show, it was good. We enjoyed it. ... read more

Highlights of traveling to the Australia zoo: -Big yellow Australia zoo bus from the Alexandra Headland beach to Berwah, the city where the zoo is -feeding of the three huge elephants -petting the camel -Crocoseum show with exotic birds flying overhead, Andy winning the monkey impersonation, zookeepers bringing huge snakes all around the audience, huge crocodile feeding - the croc was cranky and refused to leave the arena. -Roo heaven-we sat around with the kangaroos and wallabies, petting them, and watching them just bounce around -Koalas Koalas Koalas! There were so many of them high up in the trees you could find and a large area where they were close enough to the ground to pet. It was so great just to watch them sleep, stretch, and in the afternoon they would wake up for a ... read more

Thanks for reading everyone, I am loving the comments and hearing what you all are up to! Keep it coming! I have officially started orientation at school! It is nothing too exciting and pretty boring. There have been 2 lectures that I had to attend and a few free lunches and that’s about it! Since it’s been pretty slow around here we decided to spice things up a bit and head to the Australia Zoo. What an AMAZING place!! I could not even tell you my fav part of the trip- it was all so exciting. The animal are much more ‘interactive’ here, unlike the Toronto Zoo where they just feed them, here they play with them, make them do tricks and ‘egg them on’. The Croc show was pretty neat to see, as well as ... read more
