DAY 34 BARKLY HOMESTEAD-DEVILS MARBLES (KARLU KARLU)

I woke early and walked to the road, leaving Jane to sleep. I caught the sunrise and felt the freshness of the new dawn. We took our time readying ourselves this morning as we knew it was not going to be a long driving day. We spread out each day, no matter the distances, because we stop to view and read and explore each and every point of interest or not so interesting, knowing that we will not be back again. There are too many other places to explore. Yesterday, travelling from Mt Isa to Barkly Homestead we counted over 100 road kills. Today, from Barkly Homestead to the Stuart Highway, not one. Sunrise over Karlu Karlu

Up early, we hiked the Yakkula trail to catch the sunrise. Again, we weren’t disappointed. We breakfasted, and set out on the longer of the trails, the Nurrku. No one else was about. Whilst at it, Jane walked the short Karlu Karlu trail too. The area is one to be marvelled at and not one to be missed. The topography heading into Barrow Creek warmed my heart. High, red coloured, eroded hills with mesa tops and much scree. The photo does do it credit. The Barrow Creek Telegraph Station has been very well cared for. The service station is definitely ‘ancient’ but with great character befitting the owner who served Jane. It seemed that anyone who entered the bar area commented on any wall face. Hi folks For those who are following our blog, just want to let you know you will possible not hear from us for the next few days due to the service or lack thereof provided by Telstra. Any of you who have listened to radio ads about the team of dog groomers Telstra sent up the Stuart highway to prove they could continue to run their businesses, don't believe it there are hundreds and hundreds of Klms with Zero service. Today we will head north from our bush camp at " The Pebbles" just north of Tennant Creek towards Daly Waters.
