First of all huge apologies for the extremely long time since my last blog entry, the last month has been hectic, intense and chaotic as you will soon find out... Landing late on a thursday evening we made our way to the Balmain Backpackers Hostel tired and weary from the non stop few weeks in South East Asia. However we would have no time to relax. In a totally alien city we knew we had to get our bearings fast, find somewhere nice but cheap to live, and then get a job. Where the past 5 weeks had been about trying to appreciate as much culture, cuisine and fun as we possibly could, our time now was entirely dedicated to setting ourselves up in Sydney. Using the websites gumtree.com.au , domain.net , share-accomodation.net and general advertisements ... read more

HOLY COW.... I'M LEAVING IN THREE DAYS!!!!! I've never truly understood the term 'bittersweet' until these past few weeks. Saying goodbye to these amazing people that I've become friends with over the past year has been way more difficult and depressing than I could have imagined. But on a happier more strange note... here is a story from last night: Last night my roommate Winston and I were on our way to the grocery store and stopped in the middle of an intersection, waiting to turn right... and the traffic that was coming towards us was moving at a semi-slow place... well, I look to my right because I notice something moving... and I look again and it's a friggen SHEEP running through the streets of the city!!! (Yes, you read that right... a farm animal ... read more

And so begins another day in sunny Sydney. Bit of an earlier start as Shane chatted to his SFU advisor at 7am. "C.C." came over for a pet while I drank a lovely cup of tea. Dishes were washed, showers had and off we went! Early morning starts are my favourite. Fast-paced walk in the morning to Warringah Mall, mostly along a busy road but next to the Warringah Golf Course so it wasn't too bad. Got to the mall and wandered around for a couple of hours, trying to find zip-off travel trousers for me, a hat for Shane, and a few other bits and bobs. Having had a fairly productive shopping trip, we were off in a taxi to the dressmakers in Belrose for a fitting at 2pm. I arrived at the dressmaker's all ... read more

Hello from Sydney! We've been here now for almost 2 weeks and have really enjoyed it. Our plan was to come to Sydney and look for a job, but this plan lasted for about four days (I think this was plan C). On the fourth day foxy Roxy from Ski Rider called and said that we had been successful at Ski Rider and that we have got jobs for the whole ski season starting in June..yipee! So we hatched plan D, go and see more of Australia in the next couple of months but in good old backpacker spirit we've changed our plans again and are now fixed on Plan E haha! We're flying to New Zealand in a couple of weeks to explore that country instead, then back here for the ski season. Anyway, we ... read more

Glebe, Australia - January 21st - 8:09pm The countdown has began…10 more days till Lee sails into Sydney! My day started out nice and relaxing, just like the past days I guess! I got up and realized that I had no more undies so I put on a small load of laundry. I checked my emails did the usual morning routine. Then I figured I should iron my skirt for my interview today. I got everything organized, got showered and ready to go. I jumped back on the internet before I left and Pam was online so I told her I’d call her and chat on the way to the train station. But before I left I got an email from a lady that owns a clinic in town and I have another interview tomorrow. It ... read more

Well we promised that the next blog entry would be more interesting and this one shouldn't disappoint. As everywhere started to gear up towards Christmas I think we both felt it just didn't feel like the start of December with the blazing sun but the Christmas trees and caroles made it feel a little more like Christmas. We had a pretty manic start to December with me starting a new job and Sarah's sister and her friend arriving in Sydney to stay with us over Christmas and New Year. We all decided that our first Christmas in Australia should be spent on the beach with a BBQ, the girls did the majority of the food shopping the day before Christmas Eve and started to hunt for a disposable picnic barbeque. It would seem that disposable barbecues ... read more

Hi everyone, Sorry it has taken us a while to add more to this blog. We have been enjoying the sun to much and left all you readers in suspense. Well since leaving Japan (which was an amazing country rich with culture and some incredible temples, shrines and suspect food) we arrived in Sydney. We were picked up at sydney airport by graham's brothers, wifes, brothers wife?!?!?! and went straight out to Wisemans ferry, a small town with a massive river running through it. Maggie's place was amazing, we had a private room and as we stepped out every morning we had an incredible view of the river and mountains. the swimming pool they have was one of those infinity pools that kinda dropped over the edge of the hill and overlooked the river. after chilling by ... read more

My journey from Coffs to Port Macquarie involved that same mischievous driver named Trevor (classic guy who always wore his nametag upside down - which was really him in a nutshell!) who always anally stacked everyones bags perfectly and thus wasted about 30 minutes at each stop.. meaning by the time we arrived at our destination we were always 1.5 hours late. So we sat at Coffs and waited and waited. When he finally did arrive he proceed to waste another 30 minutes stacking bags blaming the Christmas rush for his lateness. Nice bloke but probably in the wrong line of work. So arrived to Port Macquarie to find everything shut and it nearly sundown. Checked into my hostel and planned to see the town all in the following day. Port Macquarie is a really lovely ... read more

Ok, so it's been a while since our last blog and im afraid this ones going to be pretty short as for reasons that will soon become apparent we haven't actually done much to write home about..... We'll start from where we left off last time.....looking for jobs, it has been a pretty torrid month or so of countless job applications/rejections I have a feeling the credit crunch hitched a ride with us on the plane over as a few days after we landed the Australian market started to crumble. As a result of this, pretty much every temp job was removed and we struggled to even get agencies to look at our CV's. Eventually we finally had some positive news in the form of temp agencies signing us up only to then be told they ... read more
