The weather has been pretty unpredictable recently but I decided to risk organising a BBQ for tonight. It was sunny all day and then about an hour before we wanted to start cooking the heavens opened! The BBQ stations are on the roof and are under a shelter so we went ahead with it despite the rain. I invited Katie over and it was just going to be us and a few girls from the hostel but there ended up being quite a few of us. I bought a bottle of wine for Katie and I to share. Katie came over early because it was easier for her to come straight from work so we ended up drinking the bottle of wine and then going to the shop to buy another before going up to the ... read more

Saturday was the inaugural meeting for over 30's Couch Surfing members. Lyn, who is a CS Ambassador for Sydney organised the meeting and it was attended by more than 20 CS members, prospective members and travel lovers. It was a fun afternoon talking travel and meeting some new people, including ... Robert who had just returned from an epic motorcycle trip through Nepal and Bhutan on a 350cc Royal Enfield. Nina who has been traveling in Australia for almost 12 months and is soon to return to Canada, Emmanuelle a French teacher who was recently teaching in Syria and now based for 2 years in Sydney. Bev who is now retired and set her heart on a new life of travel who came by train from Newcastle (about a 2.5 hour trip) to meet up with ... read more

Well its been a while coming but here is blog no.2. So much has happened since blog 1 I dont know where to start. Ill start with the serious bit, sadly our friend Roxy had to go home about a month ago as her bro passed away, so if you read this Rox, were still all thinkin of you and hope to see you back soon. So November & December flew by with a mixture of rain, wind and unbelievable heat. We ended up staying in that pit of a hostel for over a month! Was good crack in the place though, met quite a few people. Me and Charles were lucky enough to share a room with a couple of swedish girls for a week which im sure any man would appreciate. they were actually ... read more

I moved into Rooftop Travellers Lodge today, in Glebe. It's where Dawn was living when I arrived in Sydney so I've stayed a couple of nights here before. It looks pretty grotty from the outside but it's ok. It's cheap, there's a PC in each room with free internet, a TV and DVD player in the room too and each room has an en-suite bathroom. I'm sharing with three other girls, Claire, Angie and Jenny. Glebe's really nice, lots of nice cafes, restaurants and bookshops. I went to Bondi to see Katie at the weekend. I met Katie's boyfriend and the three of us went down to the beach for a BBQ. ... read more

Woke up this morning feeling not so bad, given that we all drank loads it must have something to do with the heat here!! We had a nice lazy morning and then Graham and I took our last trip to the centre of town...we still love this place and just wanted to soak it up one last time. In Edinburgh where we may have reached for the can of Irn Bru we nursed our fairly non existent hangover with an extra large Ice cream -which is delicious here before having a wander round Darling Harbour and then headed to the Monorail for a last sightseeing tour of the CBD. It was absolutely scorching now so we headed into the Maritime Museum, which is less boring than it sounds..We had great fun scrambling over a replica of ... read more

Hello friends! As those of you have been reading this have probably realised, I have not been on internet very much over the past few weeks, and I am VERY behind on my blog! I didn't quite realise how much "in the middle of nowhere" the south pacific really was before setting out on my journeys. It's literally on the other side of the world from London, and let's just say the lines of communication are not quite what I am used to. Since Wednesday I've been staying with my friends from Oxford- Simon and Jeannine and their lovely children Max & Tilly. It's been so great to finally be with friends in a nice comfy house with all of the creature comforts of home, things like hot water whenever you want it, a washing machine, ... read more

... read more

G'day all. Yes Australians do say it, at least the ones manning the tourist attractions anyway. I'm in Sydney which, far from being sunny, is closely resembling Manchester at the moment. I know anyone reading this from work will be somewhat comforted by the thought I have travelling thousands of miles at great expense to be rained on but trust me, when the sun does come out it burns like a hot thing. The 2 hours of sun we had Tuesday morning turned me a lovely shade of pink. So Sydney is a nice city. I arrived on Monday, I think, after a night in Johannesburg which was pretty awful. Although friendly, the backpackers I was in felt like it was in the middle of a war zone. I don't think staying up late talking to ... read more
