February 4, 2010 I’ve gotten confused with my days so from now on you’re just getting the date I post and my wonderful stories! I’m on a train on my way to Port Macquarie from Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. The weather in Katoomba was not my cup of tea. It rained every day and was about 30 degrees colder than it was at the beach where it was about 90 degrees everyday! I managed to get one good day of hiking in and actually cooked something decent for the first time since arriving in Australia. The first night I arrived at the hostel which looked like a huge mansion. I found out later it had originally been used as a Catholic Boarding School. I felt like I was Harry Potter. My room was on the ... read more

We had to drop the car off at the domestic terminal today. After we had done that we got the train all the way into town and got ourselves some brunch. We had realised that if we were going to camp on the East Coast we would need a bigger tent, as we would have nowhere to put our bags. We looked at Global Gossip internet café for a Big W shop because they are cheap. They didn’t have any in town so we got the train out of town and picked up our new 4 man tent, foot pump and big bag to carry it all, all for £50 - bargain!!! We went back to the hotel and packed up our gear as best we could before our 6.15am pick up. Up early and out ... read more

Hey everyone...Happy new year hope you all had a fantastic crimbo? We cant complain really spent Christmas day watching DVD’s and relaxing by the pool and watched the sun go down on the beech....don’t you just hate us! No seriously we did have a really nice and chilled day but it just wasn’t the same and banana sarnies just don’t cut it when all you want is a huge roast dinner, but sarnies were all we could stretch to as we had blown our food money on going clubbing Christmas eve. Wow what a night that was having not been out much I got so drunk on just a few but really enjoyed it and met lots of ozzies and spent the night with them dancing into the small hours. As for the rest of our ... read more

Camels - Tick. Another animal of the list! We got up early Sunday morning and had breakfast again sitting in the sunshine. The weather here at the moment is just perfect and who ever thinks this is cold needs there head checked. After breakfast we went down to Lighthouse beach in search of camels. We didn’t exactly have to search much. After all they kind of stand out. It was $50(€30) each to take a half hour ride with the camels. First we were fitted up with helmets and then we got on to our camels. I was told mine had a toothache and was a bit grumpy so that put me at ease straight away. When they groan/growl it sounds more like a lion than what you might think a camel sounds like. They also ... read more

27/05/09 Wednesday Day 285 Today was another huge drive from Armidale in New England all the way to Port Macquarie on the east coast. But my god, the windy roads getting to the coast was unbelievable. You see Armidale is in the tablelands so we had to climb up windy roads getting there so going back we went back down them and then started going up the other side. I was a sign post that said windy roads, next 45km. It seemed to takes ages to get on to flat roads but eventually we did and eventually we got to Port Macquarie. This town itself is quiet big and pretty easy to walk around it. The caravan park is right along side the breakwall to the harbour area and there’s a beach on one side of ... read more

WE’RE GOING ON A ROAD TRIP BABY! And so the journey begins… Our plan was to leave at 7.15am today so we could avoid the morning traffic and we actually do manage to leave the house on time for a change. However, we decide to have one last farewell breakfast in Barzura to set us up for the day and to celebrate not having to work for a month, yippee! Words cannot describe how nice it feels to be a customer rather than a member of staff. When we are finished I ask for the bill and I am a bit miffed when one of my fellow ex-colleagues brings it over without so much as giving us a free coffee! Forgotten already haha. I go to pay Michel the manager and he takes off the price ... read more

After a 7 hour bus ride from Sydney, we arrived in Port Macquarie, a small town on the East coast. Our hostel there - Ozzie Pozzie backpackers - was pretty nice with a decent room, a big clean kitchen, clean bathrooms, and a pool (not so clean). We spent the first day - Adam’s birthday - wandering around the port and waterway, and ended it with some very large glasses of Stella Artois. Australians don’t seem to have our standard North American sized pint. It’s either a small pint, or a massive glass. We clearly opted for the big glasses (hey, it was Adam’s birthday!), and drank while watched the sun set on the water. On our second day, we rented bicycles with the intention of biking the 45 minutes along the highway to the Billabong ... read more
