After leaving a very slow Port Stephens behind, I was headed north towards Port Macquarie. It is small port located about 6 hours north of Sydney. It sits on the farth south end of the sub-tropical rainforest and is home to the largest population of wild Koalas. I caught an early bus and arrived around 1:30. After getting settled I wandered to town for Starbucks Coffee. The only place in Australia to get a cup of drip coffee. Everywhere either serves instant coffee or espresso style. I've been spending my money on expensive coffee rather than booze. I was up early the following day for a tour around the town. We left sydney a day earlier than we had originally planned, and so we decided on our way to Port Macquarie that we would have a small stop in Newcastle. This was a very nice little place, but totally bizarre and very different from the real Newcastle! There was not much to do there, so we decided to continue our hunt for wildlife and hoped to see some animals there as it was not as built up as some of our previous destinations, and i guess we got our wish of sorts. Strange thinng about newcastle was everything was dead! We went to the beach and saw a few ded fish on the shore. Well I am in Port Macquarie at the moment. It's sunny.. but still not as warm as I'd like it to be. I haven't ventured outside yet, so I don't have any news on what it's like.,.. but I did want to write about my journey up here. 24 hours exactly (minus 5 minutes I suppose) I arrived in PM. The busride wasn't as bad as most would think it was. I think I slept most of the time last night until about 10 when we were pulling into the sydney area. After that. I don't think I slept at all.. which is the downside to a good sleep the night before.
