Woke up this morning and headed down to the boat cruisesand booked for the 10am sailing which went out around the bay for 2.5 hrs. During the sail we saw plenty of different birds including plecians and dolphins, the dolphins were too quick to get photos but there were a family of 4, we then visited an oyster farm where we tried the oysters, they were very cheap to but at $7 for a dozen, I did not buy any as I did not like it. Following the boat cruise I went for a walk into a forest and took in a kola hospital where I there were a number of kola's in the wild as well as in the hospital.... read more

I was woken by the nightmare of a backpacker at about 2am, the person was English and was flying home today but had just returned from the pub and packed his case and this resulted in him rattling carrier bags, when he finally turned in he kept his friend and me awake by snoring. (theres always one in a hostel). I ended up getting up at 5:45am and went for a coffee before I checked out at 6:15 and walked across to the bus stop where I was on the 7am bus to Port Macquarie. As the time of year is the main holiday season I could not get into a hostel so I have ended up in a the sundowner Holiday park which has dorms, there are also caravans, tents & chalets it has it’s own ... read more

Hi all Apologies for this blog being a bit delayed however not as easy when travelling around to get to an internet place that often and far too busy, anyway here now. Well spent a few more days in Sydney last week. On the Friday we went to the Australian Museum as felt we should and good to learn abit about their history even though it is only 200 years old! Very interesting and came out feeling rather sorry for the Aboriginies however they seem to be doing alot to help them these days. In the afternoon we were starting to feel the strain of walking around for hours each day so went to the Imax Cinema which has a huge screen showing 3D movies so were very sad and watched the Ant Bully but the ... read more

Friday March 31st Lo all from OZ Well, not a lot to report today, as we spent much of it driving. Our day started off in Port Macquarie where we got up, checked out of our site, and went to a restaurant called the pancake place for breakfast. I’m not sure what our waitress’s problem was but she was a mega B! The food was so-so, definitely not up to the same standards which we’ve been used to having here lately. But the service…man it sucked. After that we got in the RV and went down to the koala hospital. This is a place that’s privately funded whose sole purpose is to rescue and rehab, and ultimately set free koalas. The threats to these cute little guys are mostly caused by humans. Sometimes they’re hit by ... read more

On the weekend of March 4-5, we took off up the coast for another exchange teacher gathering. This time we were travelling 3.5 hours north to Port Macquarie. We were lucky enough to be able to take Friday off school for the trip up the coast, but the weather didn't cooperate and it was really quite a gloomy, dreary drive all the way. We stopped at a fairly secluded site called Seal Rocks. It was great to get out of the car and just hear the waves crashing on the beach. No other sounds... just water, incredibly powerful water. We didn't see any seals and as soon as the heaven's opened up we jumped back in the car. Another scenic drive took us off the main highway and through Forester (pronounced 'Foster') and several small sea-side ... read more

Corey and his dad came and collected me at bout 9.30 and out we went for a surf. its a strange feeling,. and a bit tricky but i was standing, briefly, on my third wave...corey reckoned i was a natural but he spoke too soon...had such fun but was short lived, had to be back and showered ready to go to Coffs Harbour this afternoon! Should not hav bothered. I arrived in Coffs Harbour already missing Port. I immediately knew I didnt want to stay. It had none of the charm and beauty of Port and none of the magic and buzz of Sydney. It even lacked the happy friendliness of Newcastle! Not a place for me! will be on the 8am bus to Byron!... read more

Kayaking and Harley rides! wahoo! Got up early to do my kayaking down the creek to see thousands of fruit bats. the creek leads down to mangroves and island where the trees are literally overrun with these bats. It smells nasty cos there's so many, The guide thought it would be fun to clap and scare them up so there was thousands of fruit bats flying over us, I mean thousands...sky was absolutely full! was unbelievable! and quite alarming. After the creek we headed out the river to the sea, round a small break water to a little secluded beach, its up a headland and hard to reach by car. there we stopped for a bite to eat, the guide brought fruit...slightly odd young man but undeniably passionate bout bats abd boats! a few dolphins were ... read more
