Lovely sunny weather. Today we drove along the scenic drive to Flynns Beach. We stayed at Flynns for a while and enjoyed a walk along the sand. This afternoon we lazed around by the pool at the van park and went for a walk up to the local shops.... read more

We left Newcastle on March 9th and stayed in Port Macquarie until March 11th. We were hoping to lay on the beach the entire time we were here but the weather just wouldn't cooperate with us (too much rain). So we went to a nature reserve along the river the first day we got here and walked through the mangroves and saw some water dragons (lizards) and a lot of fruit bats. We were hoping to see some wild koalas too but I guess they were all hiding. Oh and we saw some giant spiders sitting in their webs which was really gross...we made sure to stay far away from those. The next day we walked down to the ocean along the coast and were hoping to see some dolphins playing in the surf. Apparently they're ... read more

Saturday morning we got up and packed for the bus. We were starting to get used to this “changing towns” every few days now, so packing and unpacking wasn’t too tough. Anyways, we soon hopped on the Greyhound, and were off to Port Macquarie! Port Macquarie was a nice little town. It seemed to be best known for its Koala Hospital, and its beaches. However heavy rains in Australia were washing a lot of soil out to the ocean, making the water at the beaches fairly muddy. In other words, the beaches weren’t too nice at that time. So Saturday afternoon we explored the town, and used some internet at McDonalds instead. Once back at the hostel, we watched Live Free or Die Hard. But in Australia, it’s called Die Hard 4.0. Weird how titles are ... read more

Geo: -31.4343, 152.908We were very fortunate to have been invited to stay at friends of my daughters for 2 nights at a lovely location on the outskirts of Port Maquarie. They own a beautiful house with large wooden verandahs looking down to the river, ideal for sitting out on a hot summer's evening. The case of wine from Raleigh came in very handy! They also own some chickens called Silkies, which look like miniature poodles with fluffy feathers even on their feet. A few chicks were also hatching out in the chicken coop loudly announced by the rooster in the morning! The height of this visit was a trip on the river in Chook's power boat for the purpose of wake boarding. Stefan and I sat back with a bottle of beer on the lovely leather seats and watched ... read more

6/1/09 = Port Macquarie Catching a 7am bus today, so had to get up at 5:45 = not good. So, so tired from lack of sleep and literally rolled out of bed in our hot, and disgustingly sweaty bed. Had to creep around room so as not to wake anyone up and slipped out to get a wash as an attempt to wake myself up.Got changed and had breakfast on corridor and were late setting off at 6:30, rather than the 6:15 had planned. Marched all way to station with awful pain of bags digging into shoulder...if a wash doesn't wake you up, then that will! Bought ticket and continued march/jog to platform only to find had just missed train = so absolutely typical. Had to wait 10mins for next one and really cutting it fine ... read more

ROADTRIP !!!! Helleu again, and again apologies for the delay. What can I say, the year’s barely started, and January has already flown by! For last year’s Xmas break, Roxy and I decided to head out on a roadtrip, and see a bit (or a lot) more of da land downunder. Some we’d seen before, some awaiting to be explorer further. It all started with a lot of restraint, as there was a final Christmas party the night before, and a lot of pushing and shoving….. of a bag that wouldn’t fir into a very small boot (spare tyre takes up a lot of space). You may notice a greenish weekend bag on the back of the car in a few pictures here and there. First stop: Echuca, Northern Victory For those my age, you may ... read more

Ok this is the finale and it maybe be a bit of a let down blog for some, because it was a familiar part of the country for both of us, so not much new to discover, plus rellies to visit. Nevertheless, I write it with a mixture of joy and sadness - joy at the memories of an adventure that we will never forget, we've had to pinch ourselves many times to remind us that it was real - both this trip and the last. And sadness that its all over and we are back onto the wheel of the rat race.... Anyway, after leaving Coffs Harbour/Bellingen we drove the short distance to South West Rocks - it was one of mum's favourite places. Its a lovely little seaside village, but not very cosmopolitan despite ... read more
