Just a short drive down to the coast to Gerringong, where we checked in to Werri Beach Tourist Park. The first Europeans working in the area were red cedar cutters, who were first recorded as having visited and logged in the area in 1814. The cleared land was used for dairy farming and cedar cutting died out, as the cedar trees disappeared. Dairy farming became the predominant primary industry and remains so to this day. The rolling hills in the area are typical of rich coastal dairy country down the South Coast of NSW. Gerringong was the home of the mighty Mick Cronin (Parramatta Eels), Sally Fitzgibbon (Surfer), the Sims brothers Ashton, Korbin and Tariq (St George Dragons) and Rod Wishart (St George Dragons). We drove to the local shops to find somewhere to eat lunch, ... read more

There is something particularly refreshing about waking up by the sea. Each morning when I woke up in Gerroa, I could see the Pacific Ocean and seven miles of beach from my bedroom! A morning walk with a fresh sea breeze to kick start the day, and I was a happy traveller! The waves were crashing over the headland rocks, and there was nothing but ocean as far as the eye could see. Just an hour and a half's drive south from Sydney and I was in small town New South Wales, with a view over seven mile beach...yes, it is seven miles long! (and no, I did not make it to the end and back!!) After my time in Sydney itself, I took a trip down the coast to the town of Gerroa, to stay ... read more

We got back from the Whitsundays and we succeeding duping the traffic controller and did a pick-up in the drop-off departures zone. Living on the edge we are! We drove south last night to our weekend destination: the Southern Beaches. I’m awake early on Saturday morning (as per usual) and sitting in the lounge chair in the penthouse in Gerringong we’ve rented that has terrific views over the town and the beach. It’s a good transition from the views we had in the Whitsundays before going back to the city. ‘Cause where we’re staying in Sydney is so rough you know. You have to actually walk 10 minutes before you can see the water. Sheesh. Civilized Saturday evening game… (Shane taking over now) Saturday itself consisted of some well deserved wandering through town. The highlight of ... read more

So here it is Wednesday 2oth December 2006 and we are in residence in Gerroa. Arrived back in Sydney on Thursday and spent the next four nights parked in Kate and Brett’s driveway. It was just lovely to be back and welcomed so wholeheartedly by Jack and Hannah. They have grown so much but are just as delightful as ever. I had my first cuddles with little Sam and he has stolen my heart. He is just starting to smile and gurgle so we had some great conversations. Also caught up with Zac and Maddison on Sunday. They have had a very busy year with Zac completing Kindergarten and Maddison starting to look like an Olympic swimmer. They had a new pool built over the winter and are really looking forward to the Xmas holidays when ... read more
