Went to Sydney for the weekend and had a look at Cronulla Beach on the way in. Watched a few people surfing and passed the sharks rugby ground. There were blue bottles all over the rock at the beech that must have got stranded there as the tide went out. Next stop Sydney.... read more

I ended up having a great evening in Surfers Paradise as I had anticipated. Jenny B and I met up at the Wednesday night markets... there were many neat things that I would have liked to purchase but most items were either breakable, too large, or simply put, impossible to lug around and bring home in one piece. Jenny and I went out for Sushi - my first time having sushi during my trip which seems odd since I go out for sushi fairly regularly back home. To be honest, I hardly ever go out to eat, I almost always cook my meals at the hostels. Anyways, it was so good to see Jenny and to have a good chat with someone from home. As we were walking to the restaurant, we passed one of her ... read more

We have recently started calling ourselves Team Extreme due to the activities we have been doing and yesterday we striked again and went surfing. Not that extreme i know but out of the ordinary to what we would usually be doing on a thursday afternoon if we were in England. I quite fancied myself as a surfer chick so i could hang around Bondi looking cool, so booked me and Gaz on a 1 day surf lesson. The instructors picked us up early in the morning and we headed out to a quiet beach where there were few people to watch us fall all day. The guys said the conditions were perfect and we would be standing up in no time so out we went with our surfboards, wetsuits and enthusiasm to try and catch some ... read more

If anyone has read "A walk in the woods" by travel author Bill Bryson, you will identify... He had never trekked before so headed off to his local camping shop to purchase some items. Starting from scratch he managed to spend over US$1,000 on various items - most of which he didn't use as the story progressed. When it came to pay, his credit card was rejected as it was seen as "an unusual spending pattern". Needless to say I didn't have to spend quite that much but I still had a giggle to myself as my credit card (that hasn't been used for quite a while in Australia) was processed. I may not have everything I need, but shopping for what I thought I needed was very satisfying! Not quite as satisfying as sipping Argentinian ... read more

After the so-called "cold snap" last week, things have definitely hotted up here. By the way, I think Sydney-sighters define "cold snap" as less than 20 degrees in summer. Whatever the temperature last week, it's 33 degrees today and it's been a long time since my feet felt like the pavement was going to burn them through my shoes. They say the most exciting thing about going on holiday is planning it. While I loved our NZ Sauvignon Blanc and chocolate pudding planning sessions in Earls Court (they seem so long ago?), running out to shop for fleeces, warm socks and boots in tropical temperatures makes the whole preparation thing lose a bit of its excitement. I managed to wear my boots for a bit this afternoon but gave up after an hour - and that ... read more
