From Tibboburra we have decided to hit the tar so we can get back to feed Stewie and Alf, whilst it was a big bowl and I lectured them for a full 20 minutes about a cup a day I'm not sure they got it. From Tibooburra we went down the Silver City Highway expecting to find Las Vegas but instead we ended up at Broken Hill again. Both ladies behind the counter at the Astra were fat and wearing tights and I was really starting to feel right at home again. Great coffee! I told Becs that we'd wait till Wilcannia to get lunch. What a charming town Wilcannia is. A number of lovely sandstone public buildings, a few closed stores, a pub that has steel doors and bars on the window and of course ... read more

Never knew a lot about Cobar, our main stop for the day. A quick stop at the local info office gave us the idea for a park for lunch, then Suz and I snuck off to do the next five nights of grocery shopping and to grab a coffee. I reckon we have spent more money on coffee than fuel this trip – first world problem. After that we all headed off to check out a local Aboriginal site called Devil's Rock, an evil place. The whole experience was somewhat soured with the old mining shaft behind the rock formation (maybe around 10m x 10m) containing what looked to be a stolen Ford Falcon that had been burnt out... The lookout at the current gold/copper mining operation was surprisingly impressive. A bloody deep open pit that ... read more

Hi all, just back from a 5 day camping trip to a working outback station called Bogan Downs. It is a beautiful farm and had lots of activities. See the farm link below for a cottage that they rent out. We didn't rent this out but stayed on the edge of the creek and roughed it. No power, water or toilet facilities. It was a real test for the cape york trip. We found that the creek was a great place to cool down in the middle of the day and we travelled around the farm on our quad bikes in the cool of the morning and evening. Lots of fun had in the mud. The farm is just outside of a town called Coolabah which is 200km from Cobar. A thousand km from home. Took ... read more

5:30 am - what is that we can hear? OMG it sounds like terrential rain, you have got to be kidding! We lay in bed for about an hour as the intensity of the rain fluctuated from pissing down to pouring to finally ending. You little ripper, lets get up, have a shower, do our walk and get cracking. Up we get, down a coffee & brekky - down comes the rain again, the sky is looking really angry and we decide to head to White Cliffs. As we head out of the N.P, all roads are still open so off we go. The road is very muddy, and a quick look back in the rear view mirror and the camper is swaying from side to side, this is going to be a long drive to ... read more

Today was a long day of driving. We set off from Dubbo and drove to Narromine and then on to Trangie and to Nyngan. We stopped at Nyngan and had lunch at a lovely rest area which was situated beside the Darling River. After lunch we continued on to a free camp ground called the Florida rest area. We stopped here for the night. This is the first time that we have camped without access to water and power. The Florida rest area is 50km's east of Cobar. We had a lovely evening here and Steve lit a nice warm fire. During the night the weather changed and it poured down rain.... read more

During our time at Allworth we thought about our plans and decided it was time to start heading home. Most of the state of NSW was flooded so we did not have many options as to which way we would travel and the only main roads which were, at this stage, flood free was going through Broken Hill though we were a little worried about some of the roads around Broken Hill. Tues 13 Mar - Our first night stop was Dunedoo, a lovely little town and a cheap Caravan Park ($20n). Checked out the pub with no beer but great food (so they said on the sign outside) and the other choice of toilet at the caravan park with the sign saying 'will this dunny doo'. At the caravan park met Tom and Rosemary and ... read more

Thursday 27 August We left home today leaving an unsuspecting Milly behind. We feel a bit sad that she’s not with us. After several attempts to pack the Prado with more stuff than you can imagine, we got on the road at 11:30. By 12:30 we were ready to stop for coffee but we kept going until Peats Ridge and enjoyed a nice lunch and coffee and a quiet read of the paper. Traffic wasn’t too bad and we made it through to Taree before we stopped again at McCafe near Cundletown. I took over driving and drove to Kempsey before handing it back to Allen because of my sore knee. We arrived in Nambucca in time to have a snack at the RSL Club before driving to Margaret’s place and enjoying another glass of wine ... read more
