So our first bus ride in Australia. I don't know if i was still adjusting to being on the other side of the world or what but it was not enjoyable. I don't usually get car sick but I sure was close from this ride. There were a couple of hills and windy turns and the driver was driving a bit crazy but I am just glad it wasn't a long ride. So we arrived in the afternoon and had a long walk up a hill to get to our hostel but again another good one. They had camper vans for the rooms so totally private, nice big kitchen and everybody gets there own set of dishes so no cleaning up after anybody else. Which for us is such a relief since we are big clean ... read more

hey!!

With the exception of my Xmas trip up to Port Stephens I'd managed to spend 4 months in Sydney without ever going past the city limits ... in fact it was unusual for me to venture out of the centre. All a rather sorry state of affairs so I figured it was definitely time for another mini road trip. As it happened Pam was up for an adventure too so we planned to hire a car and head south... somewhere. We opted for the 'winging it' method as far as accommodation went, partly because we were to busy at work to sort anything out and partly because that's too much planning for me, but Pam booked the car and as we'd both organised to bunk off work early the idea was to meet at the car ... read more

Jan 17. Egrets, bats hanging in trees lining road into Bega. Top spruik. Newspaper article due. More spruik. Called papers in Sydney. No good. ABC SE NSW with Tim Holt interview recorded for airing on Monday Jan 22. Hot. Returned Tathra. Jan 18. Mimosa N.P. just north of Tathra. Last night prawners, lights bobbing. Morning fish jumping in shallow remote corner of the river. Fairy-wrens. Old homestead with rusting tin, collapsing buildings, fallen and rotting fences. This place needs a good cleanout. Yellow-tailed black cockatoos feeding on the pine cones of monstrous old trees. Yellow robin? Piping of bellbird. Kookaburra, kangaroo. Bermagui. Long successful spruik. Moruya. Ulladella. Jan 19. New Holland honeyeaters. A grey honeyeater with two red streaks one fore and one aft. Not found in book. Brilliant spruik Ulladulla. Later drama on ocean as ... read more

Jan 15. The morning started with a red wattlebird, then honeyeaters, grey fantail. Went on and on thru eastern whipbird which I'd heard so often but never seen. Lost count. Maybe twenty five species. What Hillsborough is to butterflies, Mallacoota is to birds. Awesome. Sat down to eat. Lyrebirds forraging. Later spruik and swim. When many people say we've done this its time to move on. Evening at Curley's to watch TV. No show! Lee (wife) for, her mother (84) in RSL against. They were passionate. Curley went out for view to escape. All good. By the river (estuary) Royal Spoonbill (breeding) with their white plumes from the back of head. For some reason I never thought I'd see a spoonbill. The whole notion seemed so improbable, that strange beak. Strange like the pelican. The pelican ... read more

Jan 12. Drove east. Stopped Traralgon. Spruik. WIN tv 9 filmed for Monday night bews. Melbourne a great metropolis. I love the architecture and art. Went to lunch with Richo nad Lu at old place. Real character. Hadn't been painted in 40 years. City but. Relentlessly urban. Crowds, graphitti, litter. Couldn't help but feel relief at leaving. Small towns, countryside, it just seems easier. To pull into Lakes Entrance, seeing sea eagles, black swans, seagulls, kelp gulls, pelicans and pied oystercatchers. Free parking. Free hot showers. And the spruiking is better, softer, more personal. Of course its just families with kids. That too is special. The parents, the care, the affection, the fun! Jan 13. Chilly overcast. Drove to Orbost. Good response. Drove to Mallacoota. Charming name. Lovely spot. Green hills running SE to corner of ... read more

The driving has begun. WWe drove to Lakes Entrance Thursday, beautiful but windy spot extreme south of Victoria. The sun came out though and Kyra got to play in sand dunes and we saw our first Kangaroos on the shore of a little island. We also watched a dolphin surface several times. The pelicans are huge and the seagulls are tiny...but they has cool pale eyes and bright red feet. We made the drive to Batemans on Friday stopping in Narooma for lunch with same seagulls...."mine. mine. mine. mine" they loved us...the feeling wasn't entirely mutual. Today (saturday) we went to Birdland Nature Conservatory and Kyra got to pet a Koala, hold a Boa Constrictor (prompting all the s to give it a go so as not to be one upped by a 9 year old ... read more

Dear all, Hope everybody back home and around the world are well! Again a very cool week, week number 4 and no less exciting. Cant really remember what I said in the last blog but I’ll start with the gig I went to last Sunday. I went down to circular quay, which is where the opera hose is, and there was a free gig / live TV show. Its was for Video Hits, kind of like our Top of the Pops. Got lots of cool shots and got on national TV, just in the background, but it was very funny! Then Came the CD Single, The track I worked on, within the first 24 hours of being in the country came out. AND I’ve got credit. As you can see in the pic’s below, I got ... read more
