Canberra - Day 3 When we arrived at school we were told to walk through library and some classrooms to go to the multi purpose court. It was so cold and we wanted to go back inside. As there was no power point outside (and as it was way too cold) we were placed inside the gym. We were so happy. As we walked inside the gym we heard the band play "Pink Panther" in the next room. We performed really well and the audience enjoyed our show a lot. At the end we invited the preschool teacher to skip in the Double Dutch ropes and all students laughed. Day 2 - part 2. We had a late start but it has been a long day. We sent kids all to bed so no one can update the blog but me. We had a joint practice session with Jazzy Jumpers this afternoon from 4:30 for the Raiders' game on Sunday. There will be about 30 skippers altogether on the field with us. We had a quick speed session with Jazzy then Jeremy and Ellie went through some skills with Jazzies. Younger skippers - Freya, Gabi, Maya, Ella and Ash made some new friends and they are looking forward to seeing their new friends on Saturday (practice) and Sunday (performance). Parents of the Jazzy prepared some afternoon tea for us. Nice! Dinner was at Gungahlin Lakes Club where we had pizzas. (It was way too late ... read more

Day 2! We had bacon and egg for breakfast and we played 'cheat' while TK and Freya are braiding kids hair. We got dressed and hopped on the bus. The first school was St Francis and Xavier where we performed in front of Year 7 students. We performed very well. Then we drove down to a park near a lake for lunch. We all played on the flying fox. We had to get a skipping rope to pull the flying fox back up the hill. Freya, Maya, Tk and I played the skidding rocks on the water on the lake. We were very careful not to hit the birds. By Ella McMahon Some year 7 students approached Jeremy at the first school. It's ok, Pete. Jeremy didn't give out your phone number this time. TK Our ... read more

Bus to Canberra! Such a great day in Sydney after the 2 weeks of solid rain!....... And we are driving to ACT............insane. We arrived at Nicholls in ACT just before 5pm greeted by Kirstin from the Heart Foundation. She had bought some food and goodies for us!! (NO French champagne. Oh she bought some strawberries though.) We waited for Ashleigh and Kelley to arrive then went to the very first significant event, GROCERY SHOPPING. Shopping for a family of 10 isn't an easy job but we nailed it. Driving in foggy Canberra was very challenging but thank goodness for TK's professional driving skills, we got there and back safely. No we didn't let Jeremy drive. (He is on his L plate.) All kids received a folder with an activity booklet, a pen, a set of coloured ... read more

4 weeks from today & I’ll be sitting back enjoying a beer or red with sis, Chris & Tobes. The trip will be underway. I accidentally dropped into Camping World today on the way home from the dog park. As luck would have it (you know how luck happens in three’s), I fell over, my wallet fell pen and I accidentally purchased some gear for a make-shift awning. And to cap of the three bits of luck I was having, I then accidentally got talking to the blokes in the shop about 4WDriving and they gave me some great tips n places to go South and West of Canberra. Hopefully I’ll have time to test out the new tyres/wheels on one of these tracks in the next few weeks. The guys in the shop were great ... read more

Only a month or so to go. Bloody ripper!!! Just spent a few days in Tassie organising some finer details with Phil and sampling a few ales. Found out that the group has dwindled down to seven blokes and four vehciles but on the day we left Tassie (Sunday) Pete said he was keen so it now looks like two blokes per truck. Perfect! When I got back to Canberra on Tuesday it was a day off from work to go through my list of required beer (er, I mean gear) to see what I could fit where in the truck. After a few hours of messing about in the garage & the bus, I think I'm going to struggle for beer room. I suppose that I'll just have to kick out some of the other ... read more

We have been staying in Bondi for our final few weeks in Australia and have discovered that Autumn in Sydney varies from quite chilly in the shade, to really warm when the sun shines. We have therefore spent some of our time hiding from the rain and surrounded by cups of tea and guide books planning our route around southeast Asia, but have also managed a few excursions in the sun! We have also discovered that when heading inland (to Canberra) the temperature drops further still, meaning hats and scarves are in order. We did fail on our quest to find snow in the 'Sunburnt Country', but enjoyed a road trip through New South Wales and into the Australian Capital Territory in the process: Our route from Sydney to Canberra was down the 31, on the ... read more

It was 4 pm on Thursday afternoon 7thMarch and I was on my way home from work, I had Friday off and it was a long week end ahead of us for what we call Canberra Day, this is a public holiday in ACT (Australian Capital Territory) and not the other states. Caroline had done the grocery shopping and Gyspy was ready to go, so I headed home to collect Caroline, then off to hook the trailer up and we were off. I possibly wasn’t in the house more than 4 minutes, got in, got out of my work clothes, got into my shorts and tee shirt, got in to the truck and we were off. We drove across to where we keep Gypsy, opened the roller shutter door, reversed in, hooked up, plugged the electrics ... read more

We arrived in Canberra from Sydney on Mon 18th Feb, and found a camp site in the City centre with a pool, internet, shade etc etc. Great location and we thought that we had finally cracked it until we looked for the communal kitchen and BBQ area and found that it was non existant. We have still to find the perfect camping site that has everything. This was still next to the bush and we had kangaroo's and a whole avery full of exotic birds join us for breakfast - parrots, kookaburras etc. We spent a day in Canberra and did the cultural things - War Museum, Australian National Museum and their Parliament. It was interesting, (especially given that we have never been to our equivalent places in London) but the city itself was a huge ... read more
