Wednesday 5th February, 2014. Canberra & National Capital Exhibition, Canberra, ACT, Australia After breakfast we made our way to Pitt Street to catch the 10.00 am Murray's Bus to Canberra, the capital of Australia. The coach was very comfortable with A/C and a toilet. We only stopped once to make a pick up at Sydney Airport. There were only about 20 people onboard when we left the airport. The journey took 3 and a half hours on a motorway. There was nothing much to see - even though M had her nose pressed against the window in the hope of seeing an interesting beasty. The most exciting it got was a yellow road sign indicating that the driver needed to beware of Wombats. We didn't see any to be wary of! We also only passed one ... read more

Well what can i say about Canberra???? Canberra is the capital city of Australia with a population of 367,000, it is Australias largest inland city and the eighth largest city overall. The city is located at the northern end of the australian Capital Territory (ACT), 280km south-west of Sydney, and 660km north-east of Melbourne. A resident of canberra is known as a Canberran. The site of canberra was selected for the location of the nations capital in 1908 as a compromise between rivals Sydney and Melbourne, Australi's two largest cities. It is unusual among australian cities', being an entirely planned city outside of any state, similar to the American federal district of Columbia. As the seat of the government of Australia, Canberra is the site of Parliament House, High Court and numerous government departments and agencies. ... read more

I am always sad when I leave my mother in Ireland and again some tears were shed as we made our way to Singapore and then to home. I was surprised at the extent of development in Singapore but Helen had told me about the efficient public transport system- SMRT- and (as usual) she was right - it was the most efficient of all systems we had encountered across over 10 major cities ( although Washington Dc was pretty god as well) - we got a two day pass for $S 16 and had a smart card style access to trains, light rail and buses across the City- very good coverage. We visited the Jerong Bird Show, the National Orchid Garden, Sentosa Island and Mount baker National Park and look out, the Gardens at the Bay, ... read more

We’ve made it home. After an early start on Thursday morning we finally made it back last night at around 7.15pm. a big day of driving but we got there relatively unscathed. I did my best to ruin it by getting stuck in a big ditch as we were driving away from camp. You should have heard the Bronx cheers from the peanut gallery. Bastards! Eventually I got the old girl sorted but not before damaging her rear end somewhat. Just another thing to fix! I’ll be spending the next few days washing and cleaning the Mav and doing some repairs and general maintenance. I’m proud to say that I didn’t need recovering at any point but am also a little disappointed that it wasn’t a little bit tougher. That being said, it was fantastic and ... read more

Canberra Day 5 Some skippers still woke up very early even we all could have slept in! Since TK asked the girls to wake up Jeremy but not to go into his room, they decided to perform their special hand clapping on the outside wall of Jeremy's room. It was quite loud and made one not so happy 16 year old. We visited Questacon this morning and all enjoyed a variety of special scientific experiences. The best part was when Jeremy and Ellie were on the 360 swing and both successfully made the 360 degree rotation on the swing. After the Questacon visit, we walked across the park and Aboriginal Embassy land to the old Parliament House. First lunch then a quick tour. We all enjoyed visiting a special room called - Prime Ministers' room (?) ... read more

Canberra - Day 4 Charnwood School When we got in and started warming up, a crazy kid walked in and started swearing and throwing chairs. It freaked everyone out and we still can't get over it. Before we performed they had an assembly and they presented awards to who created some machines such as helicopters, a plane and a crane. We performed again and we invited Nicole Krause (Jazzy Jumpers ' coach) to skip in Double Dutch at the end. We went into their staffroom for morning tea - we had Dutch carrots, celery sticks, rice crackers with dips and chocolate muffins. We ate a lot of carrots and Nicole and some adults stopped us eating carrots. By Maya Evatt School This school has a disco every Friday and looked really fun. They seemed a fun ... read more
