Blog Day 947 Well, I thought I had better round up our lives as to what has been happening since our last blog. Having come back from another frantic trip, then going to Sydney to pick the new truck up, I had squared away with my boss that I was going to have 3 days off R&R, so getting back to Canberra from our excellent weekend in Sydney, I was looking forwards to spending a bit of time, doing nothing, yeah right! I took Caroline in on the Monday morning and headed out to a district called Woden to get a road worthy certificate on the cruiser, this is our first new truck in Australia, so I couldn’t understand why I would need a road worthy certificate, it was a brand new truck, but like the ... read more

The phone rang and I looked at my wrist watch, it was exactly 2.00am and I had been in bed for four hours, that horrible feeling went through me, I knew it was going to be bad news. I went in to the living room where, where I had left my phone and looked to see if the caller had left a message, they had!! I picked the message up and it was from a colleague, but listening to the message, I knew I wasn’t going to be getting much sleep. I called my boss in Sydney, he was up and aware of the situation, he said words to the effect of “get your bag ready, I think you may be going on a trip!” I called one of our directors who told me the same ... read more

We had a good weekend and managed to go to the pictures on Saturday night to see a film I just can not remember what it was called, its an age thing, our Sunday mainly consisted of getting everything ready for me to head out to Darwin Our time is so precious now, every minute we can spend together seems to be a bonus, I never thought the adventure, would head in this direction, in my wildest dreams, its seems our lives seems rock and roll, but it comes at a price. Caroline dropped me off at Canberra airport my flight was not until 9.30 so Caroline could see me off and I could get my flight, and Caroline could get in to the office for a sensible time. The flight time to Darwin, is ... read more

G'day! It has been so nice to have Canberra as a home base. Yesterday I rode my (!!) bike around the lake to the most impressive war memorial I have ever been to. One could spend days here, unfortunately I only had a few hours. I learned more about the Gallipoli war, and many more of the unfortunate wars Australia fought in. The exhibits were amazing! They have a closing ceremony ever night at closing hour. A guy basically plays the an aussie version of 'Taps', on a trumpet. It was powerful and emotional! Will be renting the movie Gallipoli when I get home. Also, visited a little 1800's tenant farmers old cottage near the lake. It was cute and cozy! Bought some used CD's downtown at Flipsides....two 1980's classic Australian hits CD's (Han, the Go- ... read more

Four hours on a Greyhound bus had better be for a good reason, especially a bus which the toilet door won't open on. Well actually the door did open when the oldest, smallest and frailest looking passenger gave it a damn good pull and made the rest of us feel very stooooopid! Are we in Milton Keynes? Canberra is an odd place, it is a service centre for the federal government and as such doesn't really have a population centre like other cities do. It's a little bit like central Milton Keynes without all the surrounding residential estates. It is also very concrete. The most amazing thing about Canberra is that it has an English pub, a real one with real ale in real casks delivered by a real beer engine to pint glasses, they haven't ... read more

Well it was the same old story, I came in from Brisbane on Thursday evening and Caroline picked me up, gosh we save the company a fortune in taxi fairs, still what could be better, having my favourite wife pick me up, compared with some taxi driver that usually doesn’t speak much English and who doesn’t know where he is going, which constantly winds me up. I had a normal day in the office on Friday, well what is normal, we don’t quite know at the moment, as we are flat out. My day consisted of being with my boss, all day ,as he had come up from Sydney for a particular meeting we had to attend and it was one of the reasons for my delay in going back to C.I. It was great ... read more

Blog day 842-I think No sooner than I was back from Weipa, then it was cases packed again and I was off to Darwin. Unfortunately I was leaving on Sunday evening, so I went in to the office for a few hours on Sunday afternoon with Caroline to get stuff ready for the forth coming trip. Don’t get me wrong, we are not work-a-holics, but we have responsibilities which we do take it seriously and put the effort in. Anyway Caroline dropped me off at the airport for an evening flight and I was expected to touch down in Darwin, at round 11.30pm, via Sydney. I was pleased to be back in Darwin, back in the Northern Territories, where we had both spent some great times on our fantastic “big lap” of Australia. My cab dropped ... read more

Thursday 23rd December 2010 Our cab didn’t turn up - the hostel hadn’t booked it for us as promised - so we hailed one from the street as running short on time. Arriving at the airport we were told we didn’t have a visa for AUS. Well, actually, they said Richard did have one already, which didn’t make sense at all since as it was news to us that we needed one in advance and we hadn’t applied! Luckily we managed to sort it out online with customer services costing £50, we still weren’t convinced we needed it but they wouldn’t let us board the flight without it, so it wasn’t the time to start investigating! When we arrived at Sydney airport we collected our Greyhound coach to Canberra. 10 minutes after leaving the airport the ... read more

We finished tearing out the kitchen and hauled it to the dump. Then, we started in on painting the back wall of the house. After a day's hard work we would go down to the lovely beach and take a swim! Even got some boogie boarding in and a game of Scrabble. Leaving Durras was hard. It was a peaceful place to be. Loved the birdlife and the backyard kangaroo mobs. The drive to Canberra was beautiful. Parts of it reminded me of the Central coast of California. Canberra is the Nation's Capitol. It is a big park with a well thought out city scattered throughout. The first night back we took out Johnno's Dad for dinner. We sat at a lovely outdoor cafe and had yummy pizza and red wine. For dessert we shared chocolate ... read more

Blog Day 833 Well, we had had the most fantastic week away with the T-Van, it had been great spending a bit of time with my favourite wife (my only wife actually!), those times seem to be so few and far between at the moment. No sooner as we were back, it was getting ready to go again, as I was off to Weipa in far Northern Queensland and then off the Darwin. As it was Caroline’s fist day back, I didn’t think it fair for her to get up extra early and take me to the airport, so I just booked a cab to pick me up. As usual, I left my packing until 4.00am the next morning, so all done, I kissed my beautiful wife and with my case in tow, slipped out of ... read more
