Next morning…..everything was as normal, the car was there along with all the windows and luggage. I parked in a day park and we cruised around the city on bikes!!! Best way by far! We took a tour underground to learn about the history of Seattle. Did you know the land Seattle sits on, is tons of sawdust?? So downtown is slowly sinking! What were they thinking? Anyway I learned that the Seattle people love to take the piss out of themselves besides other interesting facts about the city. We then checked out the space needle tower and saw a protester in some kind of bird suit waving a flag at the top of the tower, with the media hovering overhead nearby. Some kind of farming protest I think. Interesting. We cruised around some of the ... read more

Shawne says... Mileage Today: 40.6 Total Mileage: 699.2 Flats Today: 2 Total Flats: 23 I woke briefly at 4 a.m. as James left to "make some hole" as they say. I thanked him for his hospitality as he headed for the mine. I don't miss the early mornings and long days of being a Driller. I went back to sleep, snuggling up with Jo. We rose around 6 a.m. and started packing. Mitchell was already up and was very eager to help. He said, "Come on, guys, let's get the packin' done so we have time to play some catch!" Pam offered us breakfast and said to help ourselves to anything. We took the easy route with some cold cereal. Around 8, we all funnelled out the door...Pam off to work, Mitchell off to school, and ... read more

North America » Canada » Manitoba » Winnipeg October 12th 2006

Our third day of driving saw us finally reaching Manitoba and some flatter land. We were getting a little road weary and our diets hadn’t been ideal. The previous night we enjoyed some Pizza Hut Express an hour before we pulled into the Travelodge. If you think Pizza Hut is bad, find a Pizza Hut Express and wolf down a medium pizza with a friend. Ouch. So, to say the least, we were looking forward to some time to have a solid meal and some R and R. Our dreams were realized as we pulled into the Holiday Inn early in the evening. We sat down for a meal and a few pops and planned the rest of the night. We asked around for recommendations for going out and advice was hard to come by… apparently ... read more

Arrived in Montreal, what a relief. Just felt loads better being able to see open sky and trees, guess I am just not a city person. Montreal is lovely, people really friendly, even the bus driver gave us an impromptu guided tour! It is also very laid back and quite European looking with historic buildings and narrow streets and loads of restaurants. We visited the Olympic Stadium (from 1976) and the Biodome which has four habitats including a tropical and Antarctic area. There is a bat cave and even some anacondas (which thankfully were behind glass!!). Today we walked up Mont Royal (Royal Mountain), Montreal was named after it. Basically a park on a large hill with a Chateau on top. The building was built to commemorate the first visit to Canada of the current Queen’s ... read more

North America » Canada » Nova Scotia » Halifax October 12th 2006

We've gone from Old Scotland to New Scotland in our last few blogs. This trip was to Nova Scotia or New Scotland, on the East Coast of Canada. The last time we both came here was nearly 2 years ago before we left on our trip. This time no trip sadly but good to visit. Before we flew to Halifax we made a quick pit-stop in Toronto. Our good friend Sudha's (whose family we visited in India last year) brother was marrying his lovely fiance Sherrie. We were lucky enough to be invited. We arrived in Toronto early Saturday morning after getting a lovely Harmony red-eye flight from Vancouver. So, after no sleep and a drive around Toronto on the look-out for wedding presents we arrived at our friend Ben and Jen's house late morning. We ... read more

North America » United States » Florida » Miami Beach October 12th 2006

Så er turen igang - og det er fedt! Efter en længere, men meget behagelig flytur, landede vi søndag aften i Miami. Det var varmt, 25-26 grader, og luftfugtigheden var oppe i det røde felt. Hurra for deres klimaanlæg.
