Hi Everyone, These are the photos I took on my ride from Bandon, OR to Homer, Alaska in July 2006. I rode solo on my new Kawasaki Ninja 650R, camping along the way or grabbing a motel if the weather turned nasty. During the 4 week journey I covered over 7000 miles and had a great time, met new friends and got to see a part of the world I hadn't been to before. I hope you enjoy the pics! LarryLarry... July 13 - Old guys don't necessarily like bears looking at them, best to stay indoors at night...

July 14 - Not a lot of travelers on the road to Stewart. They were probably watching their GPS's

July 14 - Found my way back on course, Cassiar Highway or 37 as it's known. This road has it all, mud, gravel, dust, even a couple of tourist stops like this little resort at Tatogga Lake. Stopped for a cold pop & photo.

July 14 - Cassiar Highway - stopped for night at the Northway Motor Inn, Dease Lake. More of the same for another 100+ miles coming up, lots of wild life & unpaved road. No lacking for bugs, this is about 15 minutes worth...

Got some innocent bystanders to shoot this one. People from Ontario, Toronto I think. Nice folks. I look like I'm wearing one of those neck braces. Maybe I should call a lawyer or something...

July 15 - Camped at Dawson Peaks Resort. Fun place, bears prowling around my tent at night, had to yell at them to go away, loud growl in response. Only two campers in tents, everyone else safe in their freakin' RV's. Found a couple of decent size roaches in my campsite...burned them... :)

July 15 - You really need to meet Dave the owner of Dawson Peaks Resort to appreciate his artistic side... Great sense of humor too, no TP in the outhouses...some of the RV people seemed...upset?

July 16 - 06:30am - Up bright & early (thanks bears), noticed the bike had a bit more lean to it so stuffed a rock under the side stand to make sure it didn't fall over. Turned my back, walked a few feet and crump! Over it went on the other side. Note the rock still in place on the left side. Perfect.

July 16 - This was a test, right? I managed to get it back on it's feet but not without a lot of screaming. Now there's a neat quarter-size hole in the fairing. Not as cool as a saber scar on your cheek though.

July 16 - Highway 1 aka The Alaska Highway through Teslin, Village of....wot's that mean?

July 16 - The bridge at Teslin was long & mean, open steel grating reminded me of one of those old-time French fry cutter thingies....best not to fall off on one of them...

July 16 - Haines Junction Catholic church ala Quonset hut. Guess I rode right past White Horse, remember stopping for a quick lunch of fruit & yogurt drink. Anyway, it was a good day to ride, great weather.

July 16 - Decided to stop & camp at Burwash Resort. FREE camping for tent people...no bears...ha! Wot was it about this day? Rode into camp and fell off the bike. Fortunately there was a young helicopter pilot on hand who asked me if I'd like help picking my bike up. Tempted as I was to tell him that's the way I usually park it I acquiesced to his offer and we got it upright again. Jesus Larry...

Too much fun !!
Larry,Larry, You looked like you were having a great time and it is neat that both you bike and your body held up. I even recognize some of those places as they haven't changed in 20 years. But of course it is all paved now. That sand road is really slimey ain't it? At least is was in a car . . . . . . .Where to next?

Some do, some don't
You're one of the ones that "do". Looks like you had a great trip! Meredith and Mike just got back from Hope, Ak. Drove up the Alcan.

Nice pictures exciting trip. Having a 650R myself shows I picked the right bike for longevity. Hope to make similar trips myself (maybe not as long as I am young and still have to work).
