Hi Everyone, These are the photos I took on my ride from Bandon, OR to Homer, Alaska in July 2006. I rode solo on my new Kawasaki Ninja 650R, camping along the way or grabbing a motel if the weather turned nasty. During the 4 week journey I covered over 7000 miles and had a great time, met new friends and got to see a part of the world I hadn't been to before. I hope you enjoy the pics! LarryLarry... July 22 - Boy do I feel better now, just like a new dog...BTW, did I mention I ate half of my bridge the other day? No? It stuck to a piece of bread I was eating and before I knew it I heard these loud snapping noises and then down it went. Kinda sharp & pointy. At least the 2 teeth held on. Gag...

July 22 - Turned 5000 miles on my no longer new Ninja, just coming into White Horse again. At least I think it's White Horse. Maybe I should look at the GPS...

July 22 - I met Mathias Schmid at Jake's Corner, south of White Horse on highway 1. He's been on the road for 11 months, has traveled damn near everywhere and is a hoot to talk to. He's Swiss so naturally started out in Europe. Check out his web site, it's not in English but easy to follow. He'd never seen anyone riding a Ninja out in the sticks before and was very interested in how it was holding up. This gave me an entire window of opportunity to invent stuff which I did.

July 22 - Squanga Lake campground - only one other camper there until very late, then 2 more arrived. One couple, the Bickersons were loads of fun, you really didn't need to be closer than a few hundred yards to appreciate the guy's set of lungs. They were up and gone before 6:30am and no one seemed to miss them.

July 22 - This little cretin didn't even bother to wait for me to leave the table, came right up and stole my lunch left-over fries. Bet his arteries are clogged....It'd serve him right. Little thief...

July 23 - Heading south to Dease Lake again, had to stop & take this pic along the way. Also had to pee again.

July 23 - The Cassiar highway can be a slippery slope, not for the faint of heart. Very slimy stuff when it rains. This stretch is north of Dease Lake, I didn't see anyone for a long time. Probably asleep in their RV's?

July 23 - Had to turn around on the slimy hill and ride back up to take this. Neat foggy stuff. It had just finished raining when I hit this unpaved section. It was less than 20 miles so not too bad.

July 23 - There's a big ol' bear in there, about dead center, you can see his butt in the bushes. I saw him so turned around and rode back 1/8 of a mile, then back again with the camera ready. He didn't go far, just sort of hid out a little. Probably eyeballing me for lunch.

July 23 - Time to stop for gas. I stopped on the way up but didn't take any pics. Cool little village, nice people.

July 23 - These guys don't seem to be into Quonset huts when it comes to churches. Maybe they're not Catholics?

July 23 - Overnighted at Northwest Motor Inn in Dease Lake again, same place I stayed at on the way up. July 24 - Stopped at Smithers Sandman Inn for the night. Rain expected. I'm a whimp..That ain't my bike, mine's under cover so it'll be nice and dry in the morning.

July 24 - Chinese place across the street from Sandmans also sells liquor. I'm afraid I got stupid again. Nice nose.

July 25 - When I'm on the road I eat at only the finest restaurants no matter where I travel. This place was no exception. Now if I could just recall where it was....

July 25 - Finally I get to use my lanterns...Lac la Hache campground south of Williams Lake. Had to wear my earplugs due to the semi-trucks blasting by and using their jake brakes. Got in late and did some of the set-up as the light was fading. Had a couple of toddies and slept just fine.

Too much fun !!
Larry,Larry, You looked like you were having a great time and it is neat that both you bike and your body held up. I even recognize some of those places as they haven't changed in 20 years. But of course it is all paved now. That sand road is really slimey ain't it? At least is was in a car . . . . . . .Where to next?

Some do, some don't
You're one of the ones that "do". Looks like you had a great trip! Meredith and Mike just got back from Hope, Ak. Drove up the Alcan.

Nice pictures exciting trip. Having a 650R myself shows I picked the right bike for longevity. Hope to make similar trips myself (maybe not as long as I am young and still have to work).
