This morning it is raining/snowing, so it is a good time to upload some photos and do this update. Poor Jack has to crawl around under buildings today. The rain/snow should stop around noon I think. I was planning to drive into West Yellowstone today to pick up some things at the grocery. Not sure now that I will do that if the weather is not good. I may ask Megan if she would like to go. Her husband Jake works in maintenance, and she is home, in an rv, with 2 adorable small children and some cats. This young family from…Wisconsin maybe, has been full timing for a year or so. They don’t know where they will head after this season, but prefer somewhere warm! There are a lot of full timers here, mostly retired ... read more

April 21-23 TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS The last couple of days I have been hanging out a little bit with my neighbor, Martha. Originally from Michigan, she and her husband are full timers, having sold their house, living out of their fifth wheel with their 2 dogs. They are avid wildlife watchers, and appear to see so many things that I cannot… L I have to say I feel a bit like a fish out of water around here. We are the newbies, everyone has been here before, they know the park, all the names of the different valleys and mountains, and places in the river, they know each other…. It is definitely a club! Everyone is super nice and welcoming, but I just don’t quite feel at ease yet I guess. There is ... read more

Last I left you, we were in Rapid City South Dakota. While there, Jack met up with an old buddy, Brian. He has a BBQ restaurant there, so if you are ever in Rapid City, check out Black Hills BBQ! We headed out of Rapid City Wednesday on the last leg of our journey. Practically as soon as we entered into Wyoming we saw this sign “winter weather forecast, hazardous conditions until Thurs 9 am.” And it started to rain and sleet, and snow…. It was 80 degrees on Tuesday! Again with the high winds, along with fog and freezing precipitation. We made it as far as Sheridan WY and stopped for the rest of the day. In town it was snowing and sleeting, but the weather was rather minor compared to the conditions up on ... read more

Matt and I left our hotel this morning at 6:30 AM and began our journey to Yellowstone National Park with the Scenic Safaris tour group. There were nine other people in our group and our group leader's name was "Boone". He was very knowledgeable about the park and an excellent tour guide. We drove to the entrance of Yellowstone, had a great breakfast and picked up our snowmobiles at the Flagg Ranch at the southern entrance to the park. We entered the park around 9:30 AM and snowmobiled up to Old faithful geyser which was about 30 miles or two hours north. We stopped many times along the way to see beautiful waterfalls and gorgeous scenery. Old Faithful erupts daily at approximately 11:30 AM and we were able to witness this daily occurrence. After a quick ... read more

Enjoyed the hot/cold buffet breakfast at the Quality Inn hotel this morning. There was a wide selection of foods including cereals, waffles, bacon, yoghurt and fruit. Coffee was exceptionally good here. After checking out of the hotel we had to stop by the grocery store to pick up a few bits and pieces including some duct tape to repair my suitcase. Even though we have purchased good quality cases they get so roughly treated going in and out of aircrafts they just don't last too long..anyway the duct tape has done a good enough repair job. Rental car dropped back at the airport then we had nearly 2 hour wait for the shuttle bus to take us to Mammoth Hot Springs in YNP. The bus was old (40yo) in fact but it was a comfortable and ... read more

Yellowstone Day17. West Yellowstone to Lake Lodge. It was as well we went to the Running Bear Pancake House at 7am because people were pouring in to what is an excellent breakfast venue. The choice was good from the traditional egg, bacon, hash browns and toast to the delightful pancakes with boison or maple sauce. Great start for a day in the saddle. A half mile out of town and we were into Yellowstone Park again heading along the Madison River. This was a pleasant ride along fairly level terrain until we hit Madison Junction, where the climbing started and reached 8% at Gibbon Falls then varied up and down to over 2000 metres and to Norris Basin, where we had called two weeks ago. We seemed to be in better shape today, despite the hills, ... read more

We were up and at 'em again today. Up early and on the road early. But even though we were up and ready, not everyone was feeling too good. David has been fighting a head cold and it is taking its toll. So after some meds, we checked out of our hotel and headed right back into Yellowstone. After yesterday's success with wildlife we were anxious to get started again. We didn't have to wait long before finding Yellowstone's prime animals in their own habitat. Just a few miles in, we saw a blue crane and a trumpeter swan floating on the river. We stopped to admire her beauty and take a few pics as well as several other people. They looked like the Secret Wolf Watching Society from a couple of days ago with their ... read more
