3 Jul 2016: I incorrectly identified the labor union when I was reporting on the qualifications of the actors performing in the Shakespeare an Festival in Cedar City. The Actors Equity Association (AEA) is the union representing live stage actors while the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) represents actors appearing in film performances. Please feel free to let me know of any other misstatements of fact and I will publish a correction. I am about four days behind in my blogs. There is no Internet coverage here at Yellowstone unless you go to certain locations and pay a fee. I was recording our activities on my laptop intending to cut and paste them into travel blog once we obtained coverage. That would create about a week or more of silence so instead I am pecking my reports ... read more

2 Jul 2016: This leg of our journey takes us to Yellowstone National Park. It is a long drive so we left at 1015 and took the Interstate (15) up through Idaho where we stopped for lunch in Malad. My prior mission leads Elder and Sister Clark live in Malad and I thought wouldn'T it be wonderful if we ran across them while we were there? In a town of 2,095 that's not as farfetched as it might sound. Maybe I should'vecalled them. Well, we didn'T bump into them so the most I can say is that they were in our thoughts with fond memories of the time we served together at the Mesa ROC. We continued through Pocatello, Rexburg and Idaho Falls before we turned off into the Park. We still had 56 miles to ... read more
Getting Close

Not much going on for the last week or so. Weather has not been the greatest, pretty chilly with occasional rain and snow. Night temps below freezing and days only in the 40’s. Despite that, the snow is melting all over. You kind of don’t even realize it, except for the noticeable shrinking. No puddles, no slush, no mud. The dry air just sucks all that stuff up! We’ve had a couple of frustrating occurrences since we’ve been here. Initially, we had no hot water. Actually, we weren’t even the only ones. At least 3 of the about 7 campers that arrived about the same time had water heater problems, 2 off us had the same one. All the guys travelled from site to site trying to identify the problems, see who had what part available, ... read more

Here we are, back in YNP for another season! Many people have asked if I was going to blog again, so here I am, please bear with me as I get back in the swing of things! When last we met, we had recently returned to Ohio and were in the process of settling back into “normal” life. It took us a long time to unpack Providence, and actually, we never totally did. For 6 months she was more like a closet we had to run outside and get things from! We enjoyed our time home with family and friends, especially meeting our brand new grand nephew Finn, my niece Chelsea’s son. Our extended family grew by one more with the arrival of Drew, the son of my sister’s stepdaughter, Emily. Cassidy moved back home temporarily ... read more

We left the last part of the series at the beginning of Day 5, with the family leaving Grand Teton wondering how on earth Yellowstone could better our experience over the past 3 days. However, it didn’t take long for Yellowstone to assert her credentials. Only a short drive inside the south gate we stopped at some picturesque waterfalls, above which sat an iconic bald eagle high in the bare limbs of a dead pine tree. We were unaware of it, but this would be an example of the experiences to come over our next 5 days in the park. We drove along the southern ring road towards Yellowstone’s most iconic attraction – the Old Faithful geyser. It was at this point we started to get a feel for the immense size of the park. Covering ... read more

A bit longer post Tantrum, and happy again

It has been raining for the better part of 3 days. I can’t think of any other time over the last 5 months that it has rained so much! Today is Thursday, but it is my “Monday”. It is wet, cold, and dreary outside. I go to work this afternoon. Upside- this is my LAST “Monday”! It is my LAST night shift! To celebrate, I am defrosting my fridge and freezer…….. Tuesday and Wednesday (the weekend) seemed very long! Jack worked on his photo organization, I worked on storage organization in preparation for moving. I made him watch the entire miniseries of “the Stand”. We did walk to the store between rain showers on Tuesday. Wednesday I made apple and peach dumplings for the maintenance (indoor) picnic, then we drove to Cody just to get out ... read more

Looking out the window is how most of the day was spent. Looking out the window and watching the beauty all around us. Looking out the window and reminiscing on the week we have had. Looking out the window taking in every last view that I could. Today began the trek back home, the end of the adventure. So we packed up all our luggage, loaded the truck and hit the road one last time. We decided to take a longer route and go back through the park for our drive into Billings, MT. We saw more elk and bison and then before we drove out of the park, we saw a large crowd gathered. We stopped and joined the last park camera party. After joining in like we belonged there, we learn they were watching ... read more

Today we decided to give finding Bullwinkle another shot. We got up extra early and went back into Yellowstone and began our search for more wildlife. It did not take long to locate the elk. We saw a group of photographers perfecting their skills with their extra long lenses at one of the elk sites. Another elk herd we came upon had 2 bulls which we expected to see some friction between the two, but they both remained calm. One kept to himself and the other with his herd of does, so no dominance illustration was warranted. We continued on searching and found many bison along the way and even encountered a couple of bison jams. We made our way to Hayden Valley where we ran into the WSC (Wolf Stalkers Club) again. We joined them ... read more

Today we drove around and through Yellowstone park. After our experience with the altitude yesterday, we chose to not do the planned hike for the day. A little disappointing but felt it was necessary. We started out in Lamar Valley which is known for its wildlife. It wasn't long before we saw a large group gathered with many cameras out, so we decided to join the camera party. We searched the area but did not see anything. So we started talking to some of the people standing there and realize they are watching wolves. This must be the same secret wolf watching club we ran into last year. I call them the 'Wolf Stalkers Club'. Membership grants you unlimited communication with other members so you always know where the wolves are and where they are going ... read more

Fall in Yellowstone is great! Temps are mild, sun is warm, nights are chilly. Crowds lessened, but then they came back Labor day weekend and are hanging around til at least next week. They say this time of year is popular with European visitors and “newly weds and nearly deads”. 2 weeks until Fishing Bridge closes down! Our last day is the 20th. Jack, however, works until Oct. 13 or so. We will move back to the Lerv on Sept 19 or 20 and say goodbye to most of my coworkers. Our friends Tim and Roxann came out to visit and we had the best time! Bless their hearts, the directions weren’t so clear, I guess, and they were late. Very late. After landing in Billings, I figured they would arrive in Yellowstone around 6pm. We ... read more
