Onaxthiel writes: I went down to the beach before the sunrise to get some shots. I got to see some of the female elk swimming around while their male bellowed from the shore. As soon as we could start on the trip out, we did. Having an 11-12 mile hike to complete in time to get down to the Grand Tetons and get a room to refit puts a bit of pressure on to get moving. This time passing the geyser, it was shooting pretty high every few minutes, so we stuck around for a few pictures and some video. The hike out was pretty much standard, until after eight or nine miles. (Obfuscator notes: We did pass some hikers who reported that they had passed some others who had reported a bear in their camp.) ... read more

The Grand Teton National Park is a little over two hours from Yellowstone, yes we are a little crazy but we're trying to see as much as possible. The drive follows the Snake River another beautiful scenic area. How much beautiful scenery can you take in? Anyway the Grand Tetons are magnificent. (I'm running out of adjectives!!) We went to Jackson to see how the rich cowboys and cowgirls live. Sylvan thought it was kind of like a western version of Nantucket. Lots of very expensive shops. Fur and taxidermy are VERY popular here. We stopped at the Million Dollar Bar for a beer. The bar seats are real saddles (I'm so glad I didn't attempt a trail ride) and the prices are high. At $4.50 for a bottle of beer (no drafts) there was no ... read more

Amanda again. So today we met for breakfast at 7am. Is this vacation? It was a gorgeous morning. The view from the Granary over to the Tetons is amazing. There were clouds hanging low through the valley, and once again, it is just nothing like being at home. After breakfast, we were off to Jenny Lake to take a boat across and take a hike. My mom wanted to go a 14-mile hike. We made it about 4. Now granted, a large part of that was incredibly steep up a rocky climb. But let’s just say Dave and I never thought we’d make it 14 anyway, and it was awesome every step of the 4. The weather was cool in the morning, and then the sun broke though the clouds and Grand Teton peaked through with ... read more

Buenos dies mi amigos from senor Dave (working on Spanish for our Argentina- Uruguay trip) today’s adventure golfing in Jackson Hole. We awoke this am to clear skies and cool temps, after a hearty breakfast at the Granary, We bolted to Teton Pines Country Club. Amanda has somehow agreed to let me golf as long as she can come with and play. This will be her second time playing and why not let her experience a Jack Nicholas course. After we checked in at the pro shop, we went down stairs to meet Jim. He was the course starter and generally knew everybody at the course. Amanda, of course started taking pictures and after the first one, Jim informed us that she was shooting Dick Cheney’s house. We both started laughing out loud. Us and the ... read more

It's the second day of our vacation and today involved a lot of driving across Wyoming. We drove from Gillette, WY to Jackson, WY. Jackson is a mix of cowboy and tourist town. Everything is done with a Western look to it which makes it unique. Has some great shops and restaurants also unique only to the area. We got into town and settled into our hotel. We then headed off to Bubba's for some great BBQ. It was excellent and we watched my 9 year old nephew devour spare ribs like a rabid dog. We then went and walked a little around downtown Jackson including the city park. Each corner of the city park is made up of an antler arch entry. The antlers were picked up by locals after shedded by area elk and ... read more
