Cheyenne has a population of 53,000 and Laramie 27,000. I loved seeing buffaloes on the side of the road but couldn’t grab a picture. I met Maryellen, Dean of the Center of Lifelong Learning at the Training Center. She knew about Boston Reed and had attended one of my webinars. I updated her with all our new information including the acquisition of Boston Reed by Ascend Learning. When I go into a community, I always look around for signs of the need for health care training and job opportunities. Wyoming’s industries include mining, propane, coal, and recreation – but there are always hospitals, pharmacies, and doctor’s offices for young and old. Monday 20th June 2011 On our last night in Silverthorne we heard thunder and saw lightening during the night and were really surprised when we woke up to a white wonderland with snow lightly falling. How fantastic! In our travels we have now seen this on several occasions but we are still thrilled to see it again, After packing and making certain the condo was as we found it, we scraped the snow from the car windscreen and set off. Rags drove very carefully whilst we could see the ice on the road, being reminded of others who skidded by the dented guard rails on the corners. Unfortunately hadn't turned of the alarm on my phone so that went off at 4 am. Excellent - got up and turned it off only for Paul Dolphin to phone at 5 am.... put phone on quiet before throwing it out the window! Everyone woke up about 7 am. So we were in for breakfast around 8 am. First make it yourself waffles excellent! After breakfast we drove into Cheyenne so we could watch the Grand Parade which started at 9.30 and went on for an hour - it was surprisingly good - what a community I know the effort that goes into Downley Day and reckon about 10% of the whole community either appear in the parade or must be invoved in some way. Well, I don't really know what I expected but I don't feel a day over 39 this morning !! Maybe turning 40 isn't going to be so bad after all. We woke up in Cheyenne, Wyoming and it was kinda chilly. I put on long pants because we had planned on going ice skating today and I didn't want to freeze when I fell down on the ice. Tim got dressed wearing his shorts and flip-lops as usual and we were off to try something new. We have never been ice skating together and it had been a while for both of us so we were excited. After a power breakfast (not) in the lobby of Super 8 in Dubois, WY, we were on our way. After several hours on the road, we (the car, Kay & I) were low on fuel. We pulled into the Conoco station in Rawlins to gas up. Before we drove away, I went inside to check with the attendant for a place to eat lunch. She recommended Penny’s Diner. Since it was very obvious to me that she had been living large, I figured Penny’s had to be good. Kay & I like to sit at the counter in diners because you really can get a sense of what’s going on.
