Today was another long drive for us. We left Santa Fe at about 7:30 am and drove about an hour and a half to Taos, NM. When we arrived in Taos, we needed to get an oil change and a tire rotation and so we found a Jeep dealership who could do it right away! What luck! While they took the 45 minutes to do the car work we walked over to a nice little café and had a delicious breakfast. The timing was perfect....as soon as we were done eating, the car was ready. So we got the car and drove into the center of Taos to check out some of the history we had been reading about in the book Blood and Thunder which is a history of Kit Carson (who lived in Taos) ... read more

Hey Y'all, Well its been some time since we last wrote and we have been up to lots, as always! Since leaving Phoenix, Arizona, we arrived in Wyoming to stay with family. Since we have been here we have travelled around and spent time in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Montanna and South Dakota. During this time we have been camping american style, played in a mud volleyball tournament, been to a baseball match, hiked in the rocky mountains, been to a water park, toured the Budweiser factory, went to a rodeo, attended a family reunion (that wasnt either of our families!), taken a 2000+ mile road trip, had a free outdoor pancake breakfast (after queueing for an hour), visited Yellowstone and seen a bear and went to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse! So, its been a ... read more

Been Awhile… You know, it’s been a while since we’ve showed up here on TravelBlog.org and for that, Kel and I both, feel pretty guilty. 2009 has been an incredibly busy year for us. I was accepted to grad school and we subsequently moved half way across the United States to our present location in Boulder, Colorado. With this move came new housing, a new job for Kel and the start of a new educational program for me, the first time I’ve been asked to study in almost ten years. Needless to say, with all the upheaval we haven’t been able to travel much. We both continue to hope that, as time progresses and life begins to feel normal again, that travel will resume. Until then, you’ll get what you’ll get and you’ll like it! ... read more

Well here we are! Lacey gave away my brothers and sisters to the Bain Elementary Kindergarden students because they learned to read! I am so happy that the kids met their reading goal, it was fun seeing them take home my friends! Cathy, Lacey and I are all getting ready to go! We have been looking at the best way to travel around England and figuring out what to pack. The day is coming up so soon! I can't wait to go, it will be a lot of fun with my two best gals. Shauna will be meeting us in Birmingham, UK, but that is several weeks away. I will be working on setting up a map for the trip so you can all follow us! Talk to you soon! Mr. Wiggles... read more

24th May, 2009 Cheyenne & Laramie Drove over to Laramie today to visit some of my Cowboy heroes, they weren't home. One of the first things you notice about the surrounding farmlands of Cheyenne is it's lack of trees, huge rolling farms (but no trees), this all changed as we headed to Laramie. Along the road they have huge timber barriers in the paddocks, these are there to prevent snow drifts coming down onto the road and in some cases there was still snow on the ground. Laramie is a town of around 27 thousand people, we went out to the old Wyoming Territorial State Prison, well worth the visit, heaps of history here and one of the clients just happened to be the "Butch Cassidy" - he was in there for horse rustling (60 of ... read more

22nd May, 2009 Travel to Cheyenne, Wyoming Departed Greeley today and headed up SH85, at the Colorado / Wyoming boarder we stopped at the "Terry Bison Ranch" a 5000 acre Bison ranch and tourist attraction with 2500 Bison. This ranch is 1/3 in Wyoming, 2/3 in Colorado, apparently a tax nightmare. Hopped aboard the Train (??????) and went for a ride on part of the ranch stopping to see the Bison fed. They are huge, the male of the group we observed was 2600 lb, only one mating male per herd otherwise they fight to the death, all other males are sterilised, no threat then. The Bison today are 1 ft shorter and 500lb lighter than the original Bison as they were nearly wiped out, from 600,000 to just 325, a breeding programme was put in ... read more

My favorite place to be is up in Wyoming on my land. I have almost 50 acres just out side of Fort Laramie. The reason I like it so much is because there is really no body up there. There is about a third of it that is good hay field. The rest of it is sage brush with some grass mixed in. The best part is that the people we bought the land from do not sell to big time developers so I know there will only be one house per parcel. I can ride my horse up there or just drive my truck around. There is a dry wash that cuts the land in half. This makes it great to screw around on my ATV. Eventually I would like to build a house. ... read more

Well, we made it and another year's Vacation tour is over and in the books! We were so delirious that when DeeDee saw a cornfield in Nebraska, she jumped out of the moving van and proceed to run head first into the corn field and starting combining with her bare hands! Bern was "packed" into the wagon, by DeeDee. Grandpa was all sugared up and needed to come down off his "blueberry muffin" high, with the help of a stop at the convenience store to purchase some beef jerky. Seriously folks! We can't make this s#$ up! Tim "Lightening McQueen" was clocked by the local Sheriff in some Wyoming town, but we don't know the name since he was going so fast...We couldn't read the sign! Maria was elated that Eastern Wyoming had cell towers so ... read more

The Black Hills of South Dakota are an interesting place to climb. The rock is a pegmatite granite- basically very coarse and sometimes knobby rock which generates good friction and interesting possibilities for protection and hand holds. Since most of you reading this don’t climb, let me give you a brief explanation of some of the jargon that is requisite to your understanding of what it is we are doing out here on the road… Climbing is more than the physical act of ascending a rock or rock face, although it certainly does include that; it largely involves the art of “protection” ergo not dying, or maintaining a level of safety where a fall, taken whilst climbing would result in minor injuries rather than major ones. There is always some level of risk involved in climbing, ... read more

Well, Hello to all! We know that you are all curious to know where we are at this time... X marks the spot. We are kinda, sorta, maybe half-way there..............if you can call Laramie half-way there! No "events" to speak of at this time. Other than Ashton's attemps to find a Duel Masters Card Shop ended up in a bust. However, we have had a Bear sighting...Please see the picture of Bernie Bear. Guess he's hibernating until tomorrow even though its only 5:00 in the evening! Oh by the way, its Bernie's Birthday today. I would like special notice to be taken of the "van packed" picture. That is my PROOF that I FINALLY packed.....and no it is NOT a picture from last years vacation! Thank you very much! Updates....... Naughty Daddy, has been behaving himself ... read more
