Today was another long drive for us. We left Santa Fe at about 7:30 am and drove about an hour and a half to Taos, NM. When we arrived in Taos, we needed to get an oil change and a tire rotation and so we found a Jeep dealership who could do it right away! What luck! While they took the 45 minutes to do the car work we walked over to a nice little café and had a delicious breakfast. The timing was perfect....as soon as we were done eating, the car was ready. So we got the car and drove into the center of Taos to check out some of the history we had been reading about in the book Blood and Thunder which is a history of Kit Carson (who lived in Taos) and the take-over and settling of the American west. We parked the car and walked to Kit Carson's house and checked out the museum that is now there. It was very interesting. Then we walked down to the plaza about 2 blocks away. We checked out some of the art galleries (of which there are many with loads of stunning art) and some gift and

jewelry shops. We then got back in the car and drove the short distance ot the Kit Carson Park where he and his third wife and many other compatriots of his are buried. If you have not read anything about this amazing man, we highly recommend the above-mentioned book! We got back in the car and started our long drive up to Cheyenne, WY. Unfortunately, we ran into rush hour traffic in both Colorado Springs and Denver and it really slowed us down! But we got through eventually and got into Cheyenne at 7:30 pm. A long and exhausting drive but we are now just 2 days away from home! Tomorrow we will do another marathon drive up to Great Falls, Montana but then we will only be 5 hours from home so Sunday will be an easy day for us! Uploading pictures and hitting the sack!
