After packing up in the morning we loaded the bikes into the RV and headed back into Chillicothe to start riding for the day. When we got there we realised our route was actually back the way we came - now that may seem like we don't know where we're going but the route instructions are actually quite complicated. Anyway, off we started on our day with a lovely ride through quite country roads. We hit HWY-50 which is our main road for the day. Nice to be on a road that we don't have to think about too much. Our plan for the day is to ride about 140kms. The temperature is quite mild which is great for riding but we do have the very slightest of head winds. The day progresses quite well, rotations ... read more

...And so begins my blog regimen. Hip-Hip-Hooray: we are on our way. I hope you have marked this on your calendar and set aside "our time" when I can share with you our adventures on this 4 month journey. We truly hope you are all on board with us. Without you, my blogs would only be a diary. Having you to share them with makes our times and experiences together come alive. Thanks for signing up! Just wouldn't be the same without you. Our family Christmas Day was wonderful. Most every one was there. Our son, Cory and our grandchildren (including Conner) were also with us even though distance kept us physically apart. The weather cooperated so our traveling families didn't have to struggle with bad roads. Even Bow, Al & Brittany's dog, joined us. It's ... read more

Geo: 37.8, -80.4467We arrived in the Washington, D.C. area on Saturday afternoon with reservations at the Bethesda Hyatt Regency. Traffic was busy all the way there and particularly in the city, but we made it without any significant slowdowns. Soon after getting on the beltway, we saw a sign warning that all lanes were closed a few miles ahead. We figured out that we needed to go farther than that point so we exited at the next available chance and used google maps on my phone to find an alternate route to the hotel. It worked out well for us to do so, and we were proud that we had avoided a long delay on the road. Once we arrived at the hotel, we encountered the most frustrating navigational challenge of the trip so far. The ... read more

Final greetings from Morgantown, WV. No pics or video today as I spent the day prepping for tomorrow's departure. I changed seats on the Mothership in order to eliminate some of the pain I was experiencing on the way here. That required a bar adjustment to get my riding geometry where I wanted it. I also did a general safety check on the bike (all is well), fueled up and packed up all of my gear. InZane was a great time and I had a lot of fun meeting and talking with all of the folks here. The VRCC staff did an excellent job with all of the preparations that had to be done in order to pull off an event of this size. Great Great time!!! I'm planning for an earthly departure in order to ... read more

Hello again from Morgantown! Wow, three days in the same place. Pretty soon, I'll have to pay taxes here. I'm really enjoying myself but today, I felt the first stirrings of itchy feet. Soon it will be time to ride again. I'm not even half way through this trip as I still have 3000 miles to go. Today I attended two Tech Sessions given by one of the VRCC members who has written several books about his journeys aboard his Valkyrie. Many of you who know me personally may find it strange that I would willingly listen to someone tell me how best to work on/care for a machine, as I tend to have a pretty good grasp of those types of things. In this particular case, I am more than happy to learn from someone ... read more

Hello from InZane 2016 in Morgantown, WV! Today was the official kickoff with lots of folks still arriving. Everyone that I've met has been extremely welcoming and most are very different from the way that I pictured them on the VRCC board. I'm sure they feel the same way about me. The main difference that I see here versus other motorcycle events that I have attended is a complete lack of posturing and strutting. No one has anything to prove and everyone is happy to talk about themselves, their bikes and the ride here. AThese people are not afraid to laugh at themselves. I also met riders from Germany and Poland today. Great folks! No riding for me today as my backside needed a break after the mad dash from L.A. It actually felt weird to ... read more

Howdy from Wheeling, WV! 563 miles and four states today! I left Pontoon Beach at 3AM and headed east on I-70 for the entire day. Those 563 miles took me 13 hours to cover, as my back has about had it with riding for a while. Towards the end of the day, I had to stop every 20 miles or so to get off the bike and walk around. A long and painful day to be sure but I made it to tonight's revised destination of Wheeling, WV. I met some interesting people along the way today. A gentleman working at a gas station in Indiana asked me about my bike and where I was headed. When I told him that I was tired, he laughed at me and said that us young people were soft. ... read more

Well we are off. A late start because of the weather - waited for the morning rain to pass leaving a fresh if overcast start. Its such a beautiful time in DC and our suburb is no exception with an explosion of spring color. Left Cameron, Daniel and Sandy guarding the house. Don't have a plan beyond an approximate route through Kentucky (where I have never been) and meeting Rob on Thursday or thereabouts in Santa Fe or another point to be determined. Headed out on historic Route 66, but has little to recommend it close to DC. In fact according to everyone's friend - wikipedia - its not even considered Route 66 in DC. Notwithstanding sounds like a good way to start. Been out on this road as far as Front Royal which is the ... read more
