Edit Blog Post
...And so begins my blog regimen. Hip-Hip-Hooray: we are on our way. I hope you have marked this on your calendar and set aside "our time" when I can share with you our adventures on this 4 month journey. We truly hope you are all on board with us. Without you, my blogs would only be a diary. Having you to share them with makes our times and experiences together come alive. Thanks for signing up! Just wouldn't be the same without you.
Our family Christmas Day was wonderful. Most every one was there. Our son, Cory and our grandchildren (including Conner) were also with us even though distance kept us physically apart. The weather cooperated so our traveling families didn't have to struggle with bad roads. Even Bow, Al & Brittany's dog, joined us. It's good to have a dog in the house again. Brittany made us a beautiful sign about our beloved, Chip. Oh, how we still miss him! I posted on Facebook the special suit that the Knapp family gave me. I'm always complaining about the nasty no-see-ums bugs in Florida. They are smaller than a speck of pepper but leave a mean bite that lasts and
itches for 2 weeks! Now, I'll put my new defense suit on and be as happy as a bug in a rug. It really brought much laughter. The day passed too quickly. Everyone left and then there was an eerie quietness in our house. The festivities were over. We miss everyone already.
But, no time to waste. I had made out a check-off list for our Florida departure and there was work to be done. Cory ran our snowman Christmas tree upstairs. I put the few other decorations away. Now we read over the list; checking it twice....??going to see who's naughty and nice??...whoops- got carried away with the holiday tunes. Finished up what we could do but most everything is "last minute" so we'll be busy on departure day (26th=today).
Miraculously, we did it. Today=departure day. My check-off list was so long, it took an hour just to read it. Set the thermostats - check, unplug TV's & computers- check, empty refrigerator- check, lock up everything- check, get our medicines- check..and the list went on and on and on...and finally we boarded our bus at 10:40 AM. Lulu was more than ready. I took the picture of
her on her "high (saw) horse" ready to scoot in the RV. She took her prime place on her perch. She would lead our way, our trusty navigator.
The weather prediction for today was the best of all the week. Temperature to reach 50 degrees. NOT! That was Buffalo weather and we were heading south. Roads were clear but the winds were gusting and drizzling rain began in the Pennsylvania mountains. The temperature was low 30's but colder due to the windchill. We had run our furnaces before we left so the RV was warm and toasty. That didn't last long. Soon I had wrapped my hat and scarf around me so I looked like a Muslin woman.
Knock on wood....we have had no issues with the RV or car. Remember last year when we had that horrific rocking problem when Cory carefully turned a corner going in to Jasper, NY. I thought we were going to tip over. Oh, by the way...we did find out what caused it: tire pressure. When Cory had the RV checked for our departure, they did the tires but had the pressure way too low in the front ones.....thus, Cory's Ark was
flailing wildly back and forth when he turned the corner. I was like a ping pong ball. Slick as a whistle this time, though...yippee. Hallelujah.
The further south we go, the weather improves slightly. We are settled for the night at a Day's Inn in Martinsburg, W. VA. We are still winterized. No campgrounds open around here anyway. I try and find us a place that has a big truck/bus parking lot. Lulu was exhausted. Those blowing winds just about did her in. She was so afraid what they would do to her hair if she went outside. She has such a perfect coiffure. NOT. She wasted no time taking her spot in the inviting bed.
While she was sleeping, Cory & I took a look around to see where we could eat dinner. The usual choices: Pizza Hut, Burger King, Subway and....a Mexican restaurant. We aren't big into Mexican food but do stop at Taco Bell once in awhile for tacos and a chalupa. This was a very festive place. The booths were colorful and artsy. We thought we were in Tijuana. Cory decided if he couldn't find anything on the menu, he could always get a
Dear Chip.....
Always on n our minds & in our hearts drink. And he did. But he also ate 3 tacos. Sandy Foreman and I had tamales on our bucket list. I have never had one. She said they were great. So I ordered 2 tamales and one taco. Oookaaay.....take the tamales off our list, Sandy. They were alright but I liked the taco better. The tamales had so much goo on them. ? ??. So much for Mexican food....it's back to the bottom of our food chain.
So, how's your ride been so far? It's always more exciting going down to Florida than coming back, isn't it? We are taking our time. Our son, Cory, has plans this week so we won't be stopping to see him. We came down to see him and the kids in late October....'member? And then he visited us in Wellsville before Thanksgiving. We will miss them, though. Going to stop on Wednesday in Statesville, N.C. to get the RV dewinterized. Our site at Tropical Palms isn't available until Jan.1st (Happy New Year) so we'll pace ourselves accordingly. It will be easier on you, too. ???Just cruising along, singing a song....side by side???. Lulu thinks it sounds good to her. Glad to be with
Ready to leave
Lulu on her high horse! all of you, again. It's been awhile. Sleep tight...and if you want to borrow my defense suit, the bedbugs won't bite. Remember the routine: scroll WAY down to see all photos. ??
