Aloha Everyone! And Mahalo (Thank you) to all of our friends and family that were able to make it to our Washington Wedding Reception in Mukilteo. We had a great time spending time with everyone in Washington and much of this road trip would not be possible if it were not for you. So one more time, Mahalo! Now on to the good stuff. Technically we started this road trip on December 28th as we left Claremont, California and headed North to the land of snow and record-breaking rainfall (Seriously, 35 days and counting). We stayed in Sacramento for a night with Andrea (Grover) and Christ Bergquist. Unfortunately, we were just getting the tires on the car and forgot to take pictures. The locals showed us a great time in the California State capital. The sushi ... read more

On Saturday, I'll be flying out of Seattle, arriving on Monday in Sydney (long flight + IDL crossing). It's been a busy 2 weeks getting things ready for the trip (stateside), it will be just as - and probably busier - the 2 weeks in Sydney, getting things ready for the trip. On this side (the US), I've assembled most of the gear, some of the food, packed all my stuff to be put in storage (while I'm away) - so, I guess I'm about ready to leave. Things to be done in Syd, include: pick up the kayak (ordered months ago - shipped from the UK to a kayak shop in Syd.), get the rest of the food (up to 12 months worth), pack food away (to be mailed to me (poste restante) in roughly ... read more

At this moment....no...this instant...right there. Did you feel it? Yeah, right now. I am in Jenga's room loading music onto my MP3 player. Her room is rich and colorful. There is a glow from everything that is hitting the tips of my eyelashes. I can see little beads of glow on each eye lash. At my hip is Carnilion. Secretly I hope I have tricked him into thinking that I am Jenga. His normal emotions towards me vary between a flat out hatred to a cool indifference. This is my life in Olympia my home.... read more

Signs have been guiding us all along our West Coast adventure. The moment we got off the highway to enter downtown, a billboard overlooking the thoroughfare announced: Party of Two, Your City is Ready! We arrived in Seattle on the 30th and stayed in our room, gathering strength and energy for our fabulous New Year's Eve blowout at the Space Needle. Taking advantage of the break in driving and sight-seeing, the Boy dexterized on his laptop until the wee hours of the morning. It was early afternoon before we woke up. Hoping the worst of the cold was over, we ventured out towards Pike Place. However, a few minutes in the drafty winds, and Marce's cough alerted us to the contrary. We returned to the safety and warmth of our room. We reappeared that evening in ... read more

Yes, I'm still alive, and if you noticed the masthead thing says, "Seattle," you'd be right. I'm in town for another two days and then I go back to Korea for the rest of my trip. I've had a good trip so far, but have taken painfully few pictures, and it just doesn't seem like I've had enough time to do the stuff that I've wanted to do. So, no pics this time, and just a few updates. I haven't many interesting stories from the past couple months...I went to Beomeosa again and got some good pictures again. I joined the band mentioned in the last blog and am now singing (well, it closely approximates singing, although it tends to be more of a "butchering") in the band. We play three songs, and are mostly doing ... read more

As Marce learned this morning, allergies have a funny way of turning into colds. While Marce slept in to recover as quickly as possible, Allen discussed several of his business ideas with Diego. It seems that Diego has saved his piece de resistance - homemade pancakes with real maple syrup! Tara, always the gracious host, steeped a warm cup of Gypsy's Cold Remedy tea for Marce and alleviated Marce's doubts by explaining that both she and Zoe had just gotten over a mild cold days before. What originally was scheduled to be an early morning departure, quickly turned into an early afternoon while Marce napped and Allen finished packing our things. Minutes after leaving the Davila home, we found ourselves on a green steel bridge crossing the Columbia River. We were surrounded by signs thanking us ... read more

At Mei’s Christening we met lots of locals including Linda and Javier. Z-C and Gen’s neighbours. Javier is Argentinian so we quizzed him on the traditions and locations of Argentina. He introduced us to Mate, which a tea drank communally. There is one brewer and one cup (gourd) that is filled with dry tea leaves. The brewer (in this case Javier) then adds water and honey (for sweetness) to the mix and lets it brew for a couple of minutes. The brewer has the first drink via a special filtering straw (bombilla). The reason he has the first ‘toke’ is because the straw may be dusty (yeah right). When the gourd is emptied of liquid the brewer fills up the gourd again and passes it to the next person, they finish and pass it back to ... read more

Mei (TS) It’s been wonderful to see my 6-month year old niece, Mei, for the first time. Even in the two weeks that we have been here she has grown and changed so much. Those who know me well know that I am not a natural baby person (dogs seem easier to me!) but your own family is totally different. Mei is a beautiful little girl, not surprising when you look at her parents. The only problem is she currently seems to like Noel more than she likes me. I say it’s because he’s got a big face, big nose and big ears like a clown. He says it’s because he’s a hit with all the ladies! Mei is now crawling around trying to look at everything and see how it all works. Quite the engineer, ... read more

Back in September we booked a beautiful looking chalet near Mount Baker for the 20-22 December, so that we could get a few good days skiing in before our trip to S. America. But when Gen suggested we went for a days skiing for a day on Mount Crystal on our 3rd day, we jumped at the chance. Gen, Noel and I left early the next day and drove the 2 hours to the resort (How LUSH to live 2 hours away from skiing!) With zillions of layers on I was prepared for a typical December day in the Mountains, but we were pleasantly surprised to get perfect skiing conditions - clear blue sky, warm sun and great snow. We had a fantastic day, a few beers and skied the whole mountain. A few days later ... read more
