Greetings, I have just under two weeks till I depart for Ayacucho, Peru. I am going down to Volunteer with Cross Cultural Solutions, a not for profit organization that has approximatly fifteen locations throughout the world. I will be volunteering in a medical clinic in the town of Ayacucho and traveling to the outlining villages. I am very much looking forward to this experience. It will be life-changing. After my three weeks in Ayacucho I will be traveling to Cusco and doing a trek through the Salkantay (the second largest mountain in the Peruvian Andes) that will end at Machu Piccu. (Gariann is going to love this one!) I am gathering school supplies to take to the children of Cusco. So if you have the chance to drop me off any donations that would be wonderful. ... read more

Since my photos are on my laptop and Melissa's photos are on her laptop we have to make one entry each to upload photos. So, I apologize for the duplicate notices you will all get each time we update the site. As you know we spent a few days in the North Cascades of Washington. Something Melissa failed to mention is that Sasquatch, aka Bigfoot, is a resident of these mountains. I hoped our wildlife spotting luck would carry over from the griz and that we would run into an equally "friendly" Bigfoot here, but it wasn't meant to be. However, my beard is getting longer and by the end of the trip I might be able to pass for a not-so-big-footed Bigfoot. So, here are a couple photos from our travels here in the Cascades. ... read more

Well, it is the end of week 2 and everything is still great except for one thing. Bret's camera broke. Yep, broke. There is a dial on the back that is the main control of most of its functions and it has broke. How and why we don't know. The dial stopped working while we were in Glacier, but he was still able to use it until the hike in the North Cascades. We were coming back from a hike and he wanted to photograph sunset. I had him take a record shot of the two of us and B-dawg with Mt. Baker in the background first and after that photo it automated itself to large jpeg and won't work. Because the dial is broke there is no way to take it off. For you photographers, ... read more

For our final outing before tackling the Big Move Part 2, we decided to visit Seattle for the day. I must admit that, like oh so many of our excursions, the trip was largely food-motivated - my parents and I had eaten at a place in Seattle called Ivar's 15 years ago and remember it having had the best clam chowder the world has ever known. Our plan was to retrace our steps to this holy grail and relive the glory :-). This noble mission was not without its drawbacks - Seattle is, of course, in the U.S., and the prospect of another U.S. border crossing filled us with trepidation, given our last experience with the joys of U.S. Customs and Immigration. Once again, they did not disappoint. After waiting for an hour queuing in the ... read more

July 30th 2005 - August 8th 2005 2005 has been a hectic year. Lots of activities! I was going for a 3 month break to India, a week after we return from this trip. Ganesh’s office had a forced shut down for 10 days and this was our later 5 days of vacation. We wanted to see WA & Glacier National Park. We initially thought of driving it all the way around. But some knowledgeable people from RTA told me “Impossible”. Duly noted. Next question: fly to where? We checked Portland and Seattle. Seattle would not have made it a round trip. Lots of criss-crossing. So, it had to be Portland. Ganesh had already been to Portland. I was not too keen and told him, “Let’s not do it…” But then, as always, he wanted to ... read more

...sponsored by the wishy washy washing machine company of Walla Walla Washington. Phew, say that ten times fast!! We started out this morning searching for Twin Peaks Kitsch. Remember now, the tv series we are referring to was over fifteen years ago. The Mar T Diner is there, but renamed after being rebuilt from an arson fire. We went in and it still advertises Damn Fine Coffee and Cherry Pie! They have done a good job with memorabilia from the series in the corridor as well. There is construction in North Bend so we were not able to go and see if the sign welcoming travellers to Twin Peaks is really there. We've read conflicting reports on the internet as to whether or not it still exists. We did see the high school and the football ... read more

SUnday was a liesurly day in Bremerton. When Bryan got home from work in the morning we walked to a lovely cafe and had breakfast on the patio. The weather was perfect and the food was yummy. We then read each other's tarot and played 90's Trivial Pursuit (I kicked his butt but I guess it isn't fair since he was 10 in 1990 and I was graduating high school!). When Bryan took a nap I took the opportunity to wander around Bremerton and walked over a bridge and played with my new digital camera. I am still not taking very good pics but getting better. After nap time we went out for dinner and chatted about everything before he had to go to work and I got on the ferry to Seattle. Ian and his ... read more

We were up early and on our way from Victoria to Snoqualmie, Washington. This necessitated a two hour ferry ride between Sidney to Anacortes, Washington. The ferry ride was really gorgeous as it weaved between many large islands between Vancouver Island and the US. The drive from Anacortes towards Seattle was smooth but the highway traffic was thick. We didn't get into any mountain driving until we bypassed Seattle. The trip was actually one of our shorter drives. Snoqualmie is one of the small towns in upper Washington State that was home to the cult classic Twin Peaks. Both Eric and I wanted to see the place where the tv series was filmed. The Salish Lodge (The Great Northern on tv) has been turned into a luxury spa. We really wished we had a couple of ... read more

We camped at Silver Springs last night. The girls and I woke up at 7am and put Dot out and went to the bathroom. Then we went for a walk through the center of the campground where a crystal clear creek flows out of the ground. The girls bellied down to drunk out of the creek. the trees there were bigger than the one in our camp. Maybe 300 years or more in age. We are heading to Seattle to drop Jake off. We stopped in Auburn and the girls got to play at a nice water park while we made lunch. The traffic in Seattle was absolutely awful and I was glad to get out. Mom and I drove out to Mt. Baker Snoqualmie N.F. and all the campgrounds were full. So we found a ... read more

Saturday morning we all got up and got ready to head out. Ian had offered to take me in the ferry to his parent's house in Port Townsend, which is accross the water and all the way north, almost to Canada. Sue dropped us of at the ferry which we barely made by running and dragging my suitcase. We lept on to the boat just as it was ready to pull out. We stayed on the deck and watched the city as we cruised across the water. Ian pointed out landmarks and sealife. Once we landed we walked to Ian's jeep that he keeps on that side of the water. We cruised up to his parents house through beautiful green forests. The air was cool and clean and I kept marveling at all of the green! ... read more
