Paddy Mackin of NW Exposures and his two faithful grips (Nan and Shaddy) made a twelve day photo safari in early October to the east side of the Cascade Range in Washington State. The caravan was comprised of a lightweight, fold-out Quicksilver tent trailer towed behind a four cylinder, sure-footed, all-wheel- drive Subaru Forester. This combo downshifts from 5th to 3rd gear going up steeper inclines, and sometimes crawls up a very steep ascent in second gear, often behind of creep of slow 18 wheelers. The first photo destination on the safari was 5-star rated, 300 foot Clear Creek Falls, snuggled into a cliff side about 2.5 miles east of White Pass along U.S. 12. There are only three 5-star rated waterfalls within the Mount Rainier Region of “A Waterfall Lover’s Guide to the Pacific Northwest.” ... read more

I've taken a few days off from my vacation. That's right, I'm in one of the coolest cities I've ever been to, and I'm working, taking naps, and drinking coffee (of course.) I have a list of things I want to see and things that I have to get done, for example, buy deodorant so I don't smell, and none of this happens. Instead, I wake up early because the old lady in my room can't hear what a RACKET she's making, I go downstairs into the kitchen, make a cup of tea, and sit next to one of the other "lifers" here at the hostel. I read my leather-bound book of poetry and I make some waffels. I talk occasionally, mostly about how tired I am and everyone is, I read the paper, I smile ... read more

Seattle Going to Seattle signified for us being on the move again. Vancouver had been part of our trip, but it had been a sort of 'trip hiatus' or luxurious break as staying with family and friends had been just like being home again with all the home comforts. So as we packed our bags and said goodbye from Vancouver it signaled the second and last phase of our travels - the four month section that remained through Canada, the USA and then into Latin America. Our plan for leaving Vancouver originally meant taking a train or bus for the three hour ... read more

Sleeping on the bench was the most comfortable doze I've had yet. I got to the Greyhound Station around noon, after wandering around in the largest Chinatown in North America. I had a few hours to kill, which always seems to happen when I want to leave somewhere and quick. I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to take a nap. I propped my mountain of a bag against the arm of the bench, folded up my down vest for a pillow, and streched out for a spell. When I woke up I yawned, and thought, crap, I hope I didn't miss my bus. But in all honesty, it wouldn't have really mattered, I wouldn't have really cared. I was getting used to this going-with-the-flow, mellow kind of life, with nowhere really to be, except ... read more

Greetings from Seattle, WA!! I hope everybody is doing fine back home in Europe. Due to a 9 hours time difference between the American west coast (where I am now) and continental Europe I am only online when most of you aren't. I hope you're enjoying the blog though and feel free to leave a comment. I have now moved again (yeah I know, I'm really flying all over this country) and I have made it to the northwest of the US to the city of Seattle. The city is just three hours drive from the Canadian border and the city of Vancouver. Today I made a visit to the Boeing factory in Everett about one hour north of Seattle, that was one of the main reasons for going there. The place was just so cool, ... read more

. After last nights excitement we had a relatively quiet night in the bustling metropolis of Coulee Dam, Washington - our room at the motel even had a view of the dam!
