I went to work with Fawn yesterday, we left at 4:50 AM. She has a job at the Seattle Municipal Building, across from the sky-scraping Bank of America building. I met all of her friends, experienced real-life office cubicles first-hand, and didn't get to see Mt. Rainier pink in the morning because of the fog. When I got out of the elevator I squeezed my nose, blew, and popped my ears. Only 38 floors, but I felt like I just took a jet ride. I walked for about 20 minutes in my lousy flip-flops, curse the punk who stole my shoes. By the time I had reached the Green Tortoise (hostel), I was walking on my tippy toes like I was wearing high heels or something. I walked into Seattles' Best, the chain coffee shop that ... read more

As a child, my only recollection of Bisbee is a faint group of lights nestled in a little valley along the side of the road, on the way to Douglas, where my grandparents lived. It wasn't until February of 2006 did I make the time to visit Bisbee. During WW 1 my grandfather was stationed in Douglas Arizona at Camp Harry Jones. After the war, he moved to Bisbee and worked at the Copper Queen Hospital as an MD for the Phelps Dodge mining operation that was in full swing. In 1920 my mother was born at the CQ hospital. A few years later they began smeltering operations in Douglas, and my grandfather was offered a position there. So he moved his family to Douglas. ... read more

I was walking around the market, hours before I had to meet Fawn, just smiling at all of the fun things for sale that I knew I couldn't buy. Living so close to that market for this whole week has really been a test of my will power. As I washed my hands in the dirty public bathroom, I noticed out of the corner of my eye a woman noticing me out of the corner of her own eye. She turned to me, "What, are you living outta that bag or sumthin'?" "Yeah, just traveling the West Coast, taking some pictures," I told her, the phrase that had become my natural response. "Oh, I did that a few years ago! It was so much fun...of course, I wasn't as young as you." She told me about ... read more

So after planning this trip for 6 or so months we're finally leaving! I'm sitting in a hotel room in Seattle right now killing time before our 4:05am flight. It's midnight now, not much to do since I've already triple checked my luggage 5 times to ensure I've got everything! So far I'm only missing a towel. We actually arrived here last night. Jasmines Dad was nice enough to drive us down here, put us up in a hotel for two nights and even took us out for an amazing world famous sushi restaurant. Without him we'd be lugging around our packs all day with nowhere to stay. We did the usual tourist stuff today. Went to the Space Needle, Rock & Roll Museum and hit up all the neighborhoods. We even met Jimi Hendrix. (at ... read more

From Bolivian musicians in Florence to the bushman of San Francisco, it is always exciting to come upon a street entertainer or troupe doing their thing. I can think of many that I thoroughly enjoyed, and gladly contributed to. My most memorial one, besides watching the bushman covered with camouflage hiding behind a few branches in his hand and scaring the willies out of unsuspecting people as they walk by, I have to say the one that reallllly got me was in Seattle. Standing at a busy intersection was a man in full Scottish regalia, playing his bagpipes. At first glance, you walk past; appreciate his guts and commitment to this instrument to play in such a public crowded place, but after a few minutes of listening it's time to keep moving. But wait! The sound ... read more

I am missing Seth to death. Everywhere I see couples and I want to trip them in their tracks with their smiling faces and thier honey-cupcake this and lovey-dovey-doodle bug that. I see traveling hobo couples asking for change on the street and I think: Why isn't that us right now? I'm sick of it, and although I know most of this missing him is my fault, I hope he feels the same or else this torture is actually torture. But now I'm in a new place and hope to clear my slate and start over. Tacoma, oh yeah!! I'm staying with my cousins' (I've never met) mom's house. Fawn is her name and action is her game. I'm sort of dissapointed that I didn't get to spend more time with Matt and Chris, it was ... read more

I looked at my map. Yup, this looks like the place. The Bank of America Building. Tallest skyscraper on the West Coast of North America, taller than the Space Needle, and ten dollars cheaper, too. I walked into the building and no one was around, including the receptionist. I figured, hey, maybe I can just go, I mean, if they're not around than it's their fault if I don't pay, right? And so I sprinted to the elevators, nonchalatly, of course, and pressed the "close door" button 500 times even though I knew they would inch together at a painfully slow pace anyways. I got to floor 60 and the elevator opened, even though I had requested the 70th, so I hopped out and asked the little round lady at the desk why. "Hon, this isn't ... read more

BORED OUT OF MY MIND. I sat on the stairs and searched through my phonebook for someone who would be up at midnight back home, and willing to talk on top of that. Before I could dial anyone, I heard "Well 'ello 'ello 'ello," coming up the stairs. I looked up and saw a familiar face, something I can't say happens often lately. It was Stuart, the Australian from Vashon. He sat down on the stairs next to me and we talked for awhile. It was really good to see him again, he had ventured to Mexico where the water's blue and the boose is cheap. We watched the Open Mic show together, where my friend Nochi "showcased" his breakdancing with a few friends and Emery sung about me when our eyes met and I blushed. ... read more

Yes indeed we entered into the cascade mountain range which contains a whole bunch of active volcanoes including Mt St Helen’s which erupted only 26 years ago and caused rather a mess. We took the scenic route ( which would have been much more scenic if it wasn’t for the fog) to St Helen’s and walked around in the underground lava caves for a couple of hours. Apparently in summer you don’t need any torches to walk through the caves. There are so many people in the caves they light the way for you! So me and my sis with our headlamps descended into an active volcano. The cave tunnels were quite large, and half of it was straightforward walking. Unfortunately it was fairly hard to take pictures in the caves so the main memories will ... read more

After a late hotel checkout we were off to the Boeing airline factory to see what Bill Boeing (the founder of Boeing) had created. The factory tour was $15 and was incredibly interesting. We saw the design for the new 787 dreamliner and the 777 and 787 assembly line. Boeing are simply trying to make smaller more fuel efficient planes instead of huge airliners now. Did you know that Boeing don't make any of the parts themselves for their airplanes. Everything is premade by other companies and delivered to the assembly line. We also witnessed a Air NZ 777 take off, apparently the last ordered 777 on route for Auckland airport. Cool. We went mad in the Boeing gift shop buying clothes and gifts, then cruised around the museum learning how far jet airliners had come ... read more
