After the craziness of my birthday cancellation in Toronto, I was thrilled to be driving rather than flying. Chloe really enjoys the beach and figured that Virginia Beach was a good choice. The hotel (Hampton Inn Virginia Beach-Oceanfront North) started off on a bad foot with me because I tried to call the hotel to request something sent to the room for her birthday and was told that they had no record of reservation (was booked through Chase rewards points) and that I need to call up places and let them know when sent to the hotel. It was a bad start. I had to call back Chase and got a confirmation # and finally they got my reservation. However, I was given attitude on the phone. We brought the dog with us on the trip. ... read more

A+... read more

Day 15 - Charlotte to Virginia Beach After saying goodbye to the Zoutewelles until our next cruise together, we headed east to the North Carolina Coast. We were headed to The outer banks and Kitty Hawk and then eventually to our stop at the Virginia Beach KOA. On our way we passed a sign for the town of Wilson, NC. we decided to detour and find some lunch there. We stumbled across Parker's Restaurant. A BBQ place with a very simple menu. Judging by the number of cars in the parking lot and the age of most of the patrons it's been very good for a very long time. We decided to go for the family style BBQ and fried chicken meal. There was fried chicken, pulled pork, coleslaw, some kind of tomato-bean thing, boiled potatoes ... read more

We arrived at Virginia Beach an hour later. Our hotel, the Quality Inn, was right on the beach and had its own pool. We were staving so firstly we had lunch in the grill. Afterwards we walked about 100 metres and then lay down on the beach and fell asleep. We were so knackered after our busy few days. After some time we went back to the hotel to get ready and we headed out to a nice Italian restaurant up the road. We had an early night as we were planning on going to Busch Gardens the following day. We got up early and had breakfast in the hotel. It was minging so we vowed to go out for breakfast the following morning. We drove to back to Williamsburg to Busch Gardens, parked the car ... read more

After a time, you find yourself longing for it. You know its not that far away, but it seems that way. You’re all caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but in quieter moments, you think about it. Its call cannot be ignored. You have to go to once again listen to that magical and calming sound. You form a plan, and then on the appointed day, there you are, where you always love to be, standing at lands end, staring at it and listening to the constant and endless crashing of waves on the shore…..nirvana to us. The journey was a little more than three hours, and while not to the prettiest or most well known American beach, but nonetheless, a good beach which we would share with about 50,000 of our ... read more

Just how many people go on a cruise every year? Even if you have never done it yourself, I be you know someone who has. Apparently, we love our cruises! With an earth that is made up of roughly 80% water, we can access any continent on the planet in the comfort of our floating bedroom. People who cruise to South America often want to see some of the big sights and Machu Picchu is one of the most popular. Built by the ancient Incans, Machu Picchu is a world heritage site and important historical destination. But honestly, even if you know nothing about it, it will blow your mind. High in the Andes Mountains, just getting there is like no other destination on the planet. To see the Roman Coliseum, Stonehenge or the Great Wall, ... read more

My eye is attracted to odd things. (but don't tell my husband!) When I travel, I look for small, lightweight gifts for my family & friends. This year I traveled to Ecuador and China. It makes for a little confusion on Christmas morning, "did this scarf come from Quito or Changdu?" Even I get confused! This is one of the hazards of international travel. I know there are people who shop all year round and store their stash until the holidays. But I forget. I'm pretty sure the funny-looking, wool hats came from South America, but the scarves are confusing. I shopped at the famous Otavalo market in Ecuador and picked up several scarves. That was June. I came home, put them in my closet and promptly forgot about them. In October, I jetted off to ... read more
