Trip 2012

Our "Around the World" route

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Hertfordshire » Watford July 24th 2018

Myself and Sheena had been planning to take this trip for a long time, and finally, we got around to it! We were so excited in the months running up to it and when the day finally came, we could hardly contain ourselves. We got to Dublin airport in plenty of time, parked the car and headed in on the shuttle bus. We had a Burger King (durty!) and legged it to the gate only to find the plane was delayed. We were half an hour waiting to board and then another half hour or more on the plane waiting to take off. Finally, we got going and ordered a couple of drinks. After 2 sips, they announced we'd be landing in 10 minutes! We got to Heathrow and made our way to the underground which ... read more

We arrived in Ballyvolane, Cork that evening. Bobbi was out on the road playing with her friends and waved us in as we drove into the estate. Sinead and Dineen welcomed us and we hung out for a while, getting settled in and sorted. We had the option of going out for dinner or staying in and getting a takeaway; we jumped at the chance of a takeaway as we were so tired and fancied a night in. We had our takeaway and a few beers and played the Game of Life. Bobbi had a pizza and dipped in and out of the game but was more concerned with Grace. Every time she woke, Bobbi would wheel her up and down in the buggy so we didn't have to get up once! We had a great ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Kerry » Killarney April 18th 2017

We arrived in Killarney around 7pm, tired and starving after our busy day. We couldn't find parking at the hotel so parked a couple of blocks away. We headed into the hotel carrying as much of our stuff as we could and left the rest in the car to be picked up later. We checked in to the hotel and headed up to our room, discovering that we had to go up 2 small sets of steps to get to our room, which is grand if you're just walking but a bit of a pain if you have a stroller! We chilled out and unpacked and then got showered and dressed and headed down to the hotel bar for some dinner around 9:30. The bar was hopping, with crowds of tourists and a live band. We ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Kerry » Dingle April 16th 2017

We arrived in the Harbour Nights BnB in Dingle. The views of the harbour were beautiful. Kathleen, the hostess, was really friendly and settled us in. By the time we got the car unpacked and got Grace fed it was pretty late and we were starving. So we headed out and strolled up towards the town to get something to eat. We were finding it hard to get anywhere that still served food so we thought we'd just get fish n chips. We stopped into a nice diner where we had fish n chips, and it was bring your own booze, so Dave nipped out to the offy for a couple of beers while we waited on our order. Just as we were finishing our meal, a Dutch couple came in to grab so food on ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Limerick » Askeaton April 14th 2017

We arrived in Shanagolden around 8:30pm on Good Friday, after a long trip from Dublin. We had stopped in the Barrack Obama Plaza for a coffee and to give Grace a bottle. James, Anna (Dave's uncle and aunt) and Gordon settled us in, then we made a new batch of bottles before sitting down to sandwiches and a drink or two. The next day, we slept until 11 and at that stage we decided to just wait for lunch. After lunch we drove to Ashford, where Donal and Veronica live. They have two dogs; a boxer called Hugo and a small terrier called Chester. We had tea and cake, and Grace got acquainted with Hugo (Chester wasn't allowed near her as he's a bit bitey. Kathy, Dave's cousin, and her boyfriend, Nev, joined us after a ... read more

We finally got out of San Francisco and started our journey towards LA. We had left it quite late to leave San Fran, so it was getting dark and we missed most of the views of the coast on the Pacific Coast Highway. Then it started to rain. We were a little disappointed, but carried on anyhow, taking a stop in Monterrey for a bite to eat. We had hoped to have a stroll around the town but the weather was so bad we just ran from the car to the diner and back again! We stuffed ourselves with burgers and of course mac and cheese. Back in the car, we continued to drive until we got to our motel in Pasa Robles. We were hoping to get out for a drink, but driving in, we ... read more

We arrived in San Francisco late that evening, and got a cab to our hotel just off Union Square. After the relaxing, quiet atmosphere of Maui, it was nice to be in a bustling city again. We dropped our bags at Hotel Rex and headed straight to the hotel bar to grab a free glass of wine. Dave was up at the bar ordering, and the man behind the bar asked him where we were from. He said "Ireland". The guy said "I know. Where in Ireland? I'm from Howth". This was a different kettle of fish to Hawaii where Irish people are so exotic. In San Fran, we noticed every second person was Irish! After our drink we headed next door to Hogwash for some food. We had loads of different kinds of sausages and ... read more

We landed in Kalalua airport and picked up our rental car. We drove to our resort, The Royal Lahaina. Our room wasn't ready so we had some food and a couple of beers in the bar. The bar was right beside the pool, and just beyond the pool was the beach. It was very relaxing. We went back to reception to pick up our keys, and discovered they had upgraded our room! They also threw in two free Mai Tai cocktails per day for us. We settled into our room, unpacked, then went back to the bar for some dinner. After dinner, we hopped on a shuttle bus into Lahaina where there was a big Halloween party on the street. The people in Honolulu were telling us about the massive Halloween party in Lahaina, and how ... read more

After an 8 hour flight from Las Vegas, we arrived at Honolulu airport, Hawaii. We had booked a transfer to the hotel from the airport, so we kept an eye out for our driver. We found our driver, Tony, pretty promptly, and he took us to his car... a stretch limo! He brought us through Honolulu to our hotel, on the way telling us where to go, what to do and where to eat. He was full of great advice. The Hilton was a very nice hotel, not as nice as the Bellagio but still very plush! We got to our room and completely flaked. We ordered food to the room and watched Jurassic Park on the TV. When we mustered up some energy we went down to Waikiki Beach and sat in the sun for ... read more

After getting married a few days earlier, we were really tired by the time we were going on our honeymoon. We had to catch an early flight from Dublin so we headed off to the airport at 5 am. Our first stop was Gatwick, where our flight to Vegas was delayed 2 hours. We were so tired so just slept in the terminal until we were called for our flight. The 11 hour flight to Vegas was good. We slept a lot! We got a taxi from Vegas airport to our hotel, Bellagio. It was a short drive. It was beginning to get dark, and the lights were all coming on, so we took in the sights on our way to the hotel. We got to the hotel and we were so impressed. It was a ... read more
