Today was a really lovely, sunny (but very cold) day in Logan. The mountains were really beautiful, but Katherine never let me slow down long enough to take pictures, sorry. We spent the day running around trying to get paperwork finished so we'll be ready to leave for Germany on the 17th. So far, we still have no tickets, so I'm not sure if it's really going to happen. ... read more

We got three more inches of snow last night. Pam is feeling even worse than yesterday. Katherine seems to be better, and I'm almost back to normal. Katherine kept me up again last night, so (just for revenge) I made her shovel snow this morning.... read more

It’s snowing again. (We're under a snow advisory until 11pm Monday night.) Everything looks lovely with a fresh layer of snow over it. This morning we got as much rest as we could, trying to recover from our colds. Katherine only woke up twice last night. I think she’s feeling much better. This afternoon we walked to the grocery store. Katherine liked playing in the snow again. We didn't see any of the Super Bowl, but Katherine thought the Puppy Bowl on animal planet was mildly entertaining. Pam’s neighbors brought us homemade cookies that were delicious.... read more

Katherine hasn't been feeling well. She was up last night from 1:00 to 5:00 a.m. Then she slept in my bed for 2 hours, and got up for breakfast. After a night of listening to crying, we were looking forward to nap time, but Katherine didn't take a nap. Pam got a guinea pig today. His name is Jeremiah and he's extra sweet. Katherine wanted to look at the guinea pig all the way home and she actually said her first complete sentence in the car. "It's my pig!" We're supposed to have snow showers tomorrow and Monday. Maybe we'll be able to catch up on our sleep.... read more

It's still very cold here. The past two days we've spent most of our time at home. Since we're in the country's most conservative state, we decided to celebrate Bush's state of the union address by playing the "state of the union drinking game". That didn't go over too well, though, because Katherine kept begging for alcohol, so I couldn't bear to drink it in front of her. We ended up turning off the TV, putting away the alcohol, and reading to Katherine. Even though I missed most of Bush's speech, he still made me upset. I got nervous when he started talking about Iran and Syria (no more wars, please), and I really didn't like the way he said we needed to help males in the inner-city. What about females? Anyway, at least the state ... read more

Yesterday afternoon, Katherine and I went out for a play-date with other toddlers. It was my first time to drive in Utah, and I was a little nervous, but the grid system they use here is quite logical once you get used to it. I must admit that I found my way around without looking at a map. Plus, everywhere you drive, the views of the mountains are beautiful. I haven’t been outside yet today, but it seems cold. The temperature isn’t going to get above freezing. Time for Katherine’s escape-proof snowsuit! ... read more

Pam had to work last night, so Katherine and I stayed at the house. This morning the skies were bright blue, so we decided to walk with Pam to the university to enjoy views of the city and the mountains. Katherine kept taking off her mittens and trying to get out of her coat, which drove me crazy. It wasn’t cold enough to put her in the escape-proof snowsuit, but it was too cold to let her go without a coat. Pam stayed at work and Katherine and I rode back home on the bus. I let Katherine strip down as far as she wanted to on the bus, and then I bundled her back up in the transit center before our walk home. Shout out to the guy who was singing “Charles in Charge” in ... read more

Today we drove into Logan Canyon on highway 89. It was a beautiful drive. We had a picnic in the car, because all of the picnic tables were under a foot of snow. Then we did a little sledding. The Wasatch-Cache National Forest is a sledding and snowmobiling dreamland. There are huge, tree-less hills to take your sled down. Pam and I tried to find a not-so-steep hill, because we knew we would have to carry the baby back up any hill we went down. We thought we had found just the right spot, but when Pam went down, she just kept going until she was only a very small black dot. Katherine and I went down, but not all the way and not all at once. Pam tried to stop us once, but that scared ... read more
