After we landed in San Antonio and got to our rental car, we went to go look for a Spurs jersey for my son. We ended up at North Star Mall. We saw a couple, but he wanted a particular player and these stores did not have it. We decided to have a quick bite to eat there before heading down to the zoo. Although, no trip to San Antonio is complete without driving by the Big Boots off of 410. I remember being facinated by these growing up everytime we came to San Antonio. So drove down to the zoo. Unlike the Dallas and Ft. Worth zoos, parking is free. We saw about everything, except the Reptile Exhibit. My son decided he was scared to go inside and I can't say I tried to hard ... read more

Tues. Mar. 6th: Today we finally have our new windshield, no cracks and successfully installed! We then headed north to Three Rivers with the intention of staying at Choke Canyon State Park. They didn’t answer their phone, but we went anyway. Upon arrival we found a sign saying “No camping, day use only.” We then went in search of a different campground. There was one next to a refinery, but we decided against it due to the smell from the refinery. We then went to a different park, but no one was in the office. We decided to pull into a spot and see if we could find anyone. We talked with another camper and he was helpful in taking us around trying to find info for us. We then approached another person at a motor ... read more

Motorhome News from North America 36 15th - 28th February 2007 The state of Texas What is it about this little bit of Texas? We might be in the south, but the familiar, ‘How y’all doin,’ greeting has all but vanished, replaced by a wave and a friendly, ‘Hello’, or, ‘Good morning’, as we pass complete strangers. It’s a fact that most of the people we meet here are from far away, from the northern United States and Canada where the cold and damp gets to the bones in the grip of winter when grey hair eventually forces you into retirement, and dreaming of warmer climes interrupts the slumber on a nightly basis. Southeast Texas is not a pretty place, the Rio Grande has virtually silted up and no longer discharges into the Gulf of Mexico, ... read more

After a comfortable sleep in wonderful bed, we attacked the killer waffle breakfast fixed up by Ron. It almost did us in, so we ventured out into the neighborhood to work some of it off. Beautiful sunny morning for a walk, but it is already pretty warm. Arriving back at the B&B we checked out and drove downtown to the Market Square. This is a more upscale farmer’s market, and sells all sorts of really unique items. From there we walked back down to the Riverwalk and the Alamo. Along the way we passed city hall and decided to go in for a peek. It appeared to be a small building at first, but when we talked with the security guy he showed us a bit more of it and it turned out to be a ... read more

Texas didn't make a great first impression on us. There was mile after mile of flat, boring landscape and horrible roads, without so much as an interesting billboard to look at. Occasionally there were houses trying to outdo each other with the number of rusted-out vehicles contained in their yards. We spend the first night in a hotel near Baytown, just east of Houston, entertained until the wee hours by a troupe of drunken red-necks (this is not an idle insult - one of their trucks sported a sticker to that effect) on the balcony above our room, flicking cigarette butts down onto our Green Gator (as our RV is affectionately known). The following day, we decided to investigate the coast and drove down to Galveston and along the off-shore islands southwards. The weather didn't help ... read more

We finally made it out of Austin! We headed out after the roads were clear of ice and open again. Tom went out with the hose and melted away the remaining ice on the RV and we were off. It was a relatively short, non-scenic drive to San Antonio, fitting for the short stay we intended it to be. We pulled into Stone Creek RV Park on Sunday afternoon with, coincidentally, the only sun we had seen in days, and we were pleased to find it had some old Texas charm. As soon as we parked I put the plants outside for some much appreciated sunshine, we leveled the RV, then sat inside to catch the NFL Playoffs. The sun was still shining outside during the break between the two games, so we took a ... read more

I thought I would be able to outrun the weather front and make it to the other side of San Antonio before it hit. I was mistaken. Twenty more miles and I would be able to leave today for NOLA, but as darkness fell on San Antonio yesterday, the weather took a turn for the worse. By the time I drove into NW San Antonio from Tucson on I-10, ice was already starting to accumulate on the roads. I-10 was closed and I couldn't make it to the hostel, so I stopped at the intersection of 1604 and I-10 for the night. In the morning, it had only gotten worse. My alternate route out was closed, I-10 was closed and I did not want to take the chance of getting stuck on some unknown surface road ... read more

Day 4 - San Antonio, TX - Travelers Trailer Park on Roosevelt Ave. Highlights: bad shocks; new camera; river walk; Christmas lights; newest Starbucks The trailer park is nice/pretty and not too big with good showers (better enjoy them as I would not see one for about a week) small pool and is near at least 14KM of walking/cycling trails along the Paseo del Rio which also runs thru downtown San Antonio south ... http://www.travelersworldrv.com/... Upon waking it was still cool we were soooo glad we took our winter coats with us on the way down as we sure needed them even in San Antonio. Today we took it easy, cleaned out the truck, realized that the swaying of the truck was not due to the weight in the wrong place but it are the shocks ... read more

Day 3 - Emporia, KS San Antonio, TX Yahooo, yippee 150km down the Kansas Turnpike, I was in heaven, (I do believe I was a race car driver in my previous life, Sandy can attest to that). Nebraska and Oklahoma again were pain free, exiting free, but not snow free. I believe it was about 30miles north of the Texas state border when we finally could not find anymore snow and believe me I was looking as I just could not believe that snow could travel this far south. 30miles (30miles is 30minutes of driving = half an hour = you can drive 100km per hour) = +/- 50km, therefore 30miles = +/- 50km don't ask :) we did not know the conversion so I had to make up my own. We grossly under estimated ... read more

11/27/2006 12:47 AM The Sanctuary in San Antonio, Texas is the shittiest place I have ever played!!!!!!!! Just got done playing San Antonio and I don’t think I have it in me to put it all down here. Surely it would take longer than the batteries on the laptop would last. First of all when it comes to the travel blog being about tour. I try to keep names and places out of it because this is about travel foremost. However, tonight’s show nearly didn’t happen. I’m sitting at the merch booth while Attrition is on stage and the sound in here absolutely, positively sucks! It might be easier to make a list… 1. We were here at 6pm as per contract. Staff showed up at 7:45pm. 2. The sound guy (2 hours late) bitched because ... read more
