Tom and I are now about 70 years old, and this summer are heading north for our second trip to Canada, Alaska, and the western “lower 48”. We’ve recently traded our trusty 2004 Lance truck camper and Dodge truck for a 28 foot Phoenix Cruiser motorhome, so prep work this time involves getting a new recreational vehicle (RV) set up and equipped. Tom does the techy stuff; I do the kitchen, bath and décor stuff. Maggie is purely decorative. It’s worked pretty well so far. Current plans call for us to drive to Canada through Michigan and travel west on the Trans-Canada Highway. We’ll be able to explore the northern coast of Lake Superior and visit Manitoba and Saskatchewan, which we haven’t visited yet, as well as Alberta. We road around in Nashville for a quick tour. We didn't get to stop but that's ok. We have traveled 2,261 miles in only 5 days, we are on our way home. It has been fun and exciting! More road trips will follow........ read more

We really enjoyed the Great Smoky Mountains National Park...Maggie Valley looks like a cool mountain town and it was a beautiful ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lots of trails for hiking and amazing views. Good cardio workout up to Clingmans Dome. Did a little hike on the Appalachian Trail...on the way to Gatlinburg TN came across our first wildlife - 2 wild turkeys ?? Told them to run and get out of the road...not Thanksgiving yet ? Gatlinburg, TN - wow! Great cool town...main drag had all kinds of people, shops, restaurants, etc. Moonshine tasting ? Lots of fun things to do...we need to plan a trip sometime to check it all out. Hi all Sorry it has been so long since our last blog. Regrettably it turned out that our motel in Orlando, where we booked for 5 days, had non-existent WiFi in the room and barely working in reception. In fact it lacked in many ways, particularly no fridge nor microwave. But for this blog we have jumped 10 days or so to update regarding Hurricane Irma. We will blog for the intervening days shortly. At the end of the last blog we were 'fleeing' Hurricane Harvey which was wreaking havoc in SE Texas. We gave some facts on Harvey at the last blog. We have since learnt that around half a million cars were written off due to flooding! Along with thousands of properties, and sadly 42 lives. David here... The journey into Kentucky was around 2 hours. We stopped at yet another Walmart for supplies, including vodka and more bourbon as this Walmart, unusually, had a liquor store attached. We also managed to download Amazon Music and a few of our albums onto the tablet so we had some music for the evenings. We were staying in the Daniel Boone National Forest. The pitch was among the trees on a gravel pad and quite secluded. It was early evening when we arrived so wandered down to the lake and around the area before settling down at camp for the evening. We had pasta bolognese, and drank beer and spirits, listening to Iron Maiden. A pretty good way to spend any evening. We also had lots of insects visiting us to keep us company. ... read more
