Lets continue shall we !! lets see, remember Na the hotel's transport driver ?? We gotten to know him a little bit more as days goes by. Turns out he's been coaching a Rugby team of his own, and he invited us to come and watch his team play and we did. O..goodness what a game it was, they kicked, they wrestled, and they throw the ball as well as their team. For a first timer spectator, we're not sure how they scored or the rules of the game, so we cheered when others cheered and yelp when something went wrong. Anyway, on one of the junior league we noticed some hostility going on and the result of that conflict was, the team member who gotten into fight had to seat by the goal for a ... read more

The ocean too was bearable to swim on, so we went snorkeling on the lagoon and took pictures, which are still in our camera which needs to have its own software to be downloaded to our PC before we can download the photos of the marines animals. Its been very fortunate for us to have the time and savings to take vacations, and yes very grateful we are able to travel and love it. This latest trip to Rarotongga was very different for some reason. Maybe because many events was going on in my life, but not to go into details about me, lets start with the journey shall we !! We flew from PDX to LAX late July of 2009, then 9 hours of airtime to Rarotongga via Air New Zealand. Not a bad seat nor food for economy, or so we thought. It was also a smooth flight to our surprise. Rarotongga is the capital of The Cook Island, which nestle in the Polynesian triangle and consists of 15 tiny islands, you can barely see it on the world map. The ... read more

Upon leaving San Fran, I had a 21 hour bus journey up to Seattle, which went surprisingly smoothly. Seattle was welcoming with all the grey sky it could offer, a reminder of home. I met up with family friends & had a wonderful cruise with them to Tillicum village for a salmon dinner, where the salmon was cooked over an open fire. Very delicious & it was followed by a great performance from the local Native American tribe to demonstrate some of their dances. I also went up the space needle for a view of Seattle but couldn't see as far as Mt. Ranier. I went to the Pacific science centre to try and remember my science from school & to watch the Rocky mountain express in the IMAX. One of the most enjoyable museums was ... read more

Today I didn’t really do much. I woke up at around 1pm, and after saying goodbye to Aki, who was leaving, I went and grabbed something to eat. Dallas and the boys, Jake and Callum, who didn’t spend the night here, came in and we all met again. They stayed here for a little while, then headed off. I made sure to grab their contact details before they did so. I decided then to go out into the city and do some walking around. Portland is quite a nice looking town; I was happy I took the time to check it out. I grabbed some Subway as well, from the most cheerful American server I had come across. He seemed to really enjoy making my Subway for me; even told me which one was his favourite. ... read more

Portland had quite a bit to offer in terms of experience. We’ll get to that. First of all, I embarked on my first greyhound bus in Seattle. Journey time to Portland was four hours. I grabbed my first burrito on the way too, which was from a gas station. It wasn’t that great. Maybe I should go to Taco Bell next time. Once I got to my hostel in Portland, which was a long walk from the bus station, I became acquainted with two of my roommates, Callum, an Aussie from Adelaide, and Jake from London. We got to know eachother very fast. Soon after, another two roommates came in; Judy from Taiwan and Aki from Japan. With Callum and Jake, I soon after headed out with a new local friend of theirs, literally just met. ... read more

We left Portland on Saturday, after three and a bit good days of wandering about, drinking coffee and espressos (actually macchiatos), testing the local beer, shopping, visiting galleries and, of course, eating. The people of Portland are, for the most part, incredibly friendly and helpful. In my experience, not the norm for such a big city. Oh there are also the slightly ‘different’ folk who spend a lot of time talking to themselves and chat up others for no particular purpose other than to hear themselves talk, but those folk make up the total ambience of a big city. Somehow they seem to fit and are accepted. Many times, when we got on a train or streetcar, or were standing and waiting for the same, someone would start in with one of us. Les seemed to ... read more
