Well I made it to Raleigh and will soon get on the plane for London's Gatwick Airport. Brooke made it at least as far as Seattle but since I don't have my cell phone, I will trust that she is now on her way to Amsterdam. I have 3 photos to share and this may be the last time to make an entry for a day or two. Wish us luck!!!!... read more

D-day. 4:30 a.m. came really fast today. I showered and tied up some loose ends and my dad and I headed for the airport. As I was waiting in line, Marci came in to see me off. She waited with me as far as she could and sent me off with a big hug. I waited in the terminal for a bit, then boarded the plane. Armed only with love (and a card) from Marci, and a bit of affirmation from Dale and Uncle Dave, and the knowledge that this is where God has me. Period. And that last thing is all I need. The flight to Minneapolis was fine. I was asleep before takeoff, but then the guy on the intercom woke me up. 20 minutes made a good nap, but it was hard because ... read more

Habakkuk 1:5 Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it. This is what I read in my quiet time tonight. Look at the nations- I’m surrounded by people from Uganda. Be amazed at them! And with them! God is doing something in the here and now, as I’m watching. But am I paying attention? He’s doing something I wouldn’t have ever thought up and can’t imagine. I couldn’t comprehend it even if someone told me and pointed it out plainly. Am I looking to see what God is doing? A few things to add from today: had dinner with the kids at the house. Meat and potatoes! And Prossy, a woman from Uganda, had some ... read more

Umstead State Park is an oasis of nature sitting on the edge of Raleigh. It is a large, wooded park that is large enough to host an annual marathon and also a 100 mile race. It has been my running home for the last four years. There are both wide roads covered by a finely crushed rock surface and single-track trails winding through the park. The park itself is great for running, biking, or walking. During the fall the colors are vibrant. There are also helpful trail maps at the ... read more

Hi folks from Raleigh and another photo workshop. I managed to get a nasty viral infection, complete with a 102 degree temperature, Sunday so I missed the class time with my instructor Sunday evening and all day Monday. I managed to get to class today and have mostly caught up. At any rate, as you will notice if you've come to the travel blog, they had a major crash last week. Most of my photos are still out there, but not the text. I think I have all the text saved, but don't know when or if I'll reenter the data. Not much to report from here other than it's very hot and I'm very tired. Don't know when I'll make another entry on this trip, but I will when I have time and feel up ... read more

So, as of right now I am sitting at home in Raleigh, at my laptop computer. Soon I will be embarking on a trip that will probably change my life in many ways. That is daunting to me. I guess a lot of things are. Right now I'm really nervous. Nervous about living in Valencia, Spain. I go from being very confident to very unsure. Back and forth, back and forth. Well, I wanted to have a starting point, and get this set up before my whirlwind begins...... read more

04:17. Alright, this is it. Bags are packed, and Donald is taking me to the airport. Just in time too. Looks like there is a winter storm coming to the Carolinas. Hopefully the Houston layover will go smoothly. Flying on Continental from Raleigh, North Carolina to Houston, Texas, to Honolulu, Hawaii and then through Guam to Manila, Philppines. I should arrive in Manila Friday night, 19 January 2007, at 21:40 (9:40pm). Manila is 13 hours ahead of the eastern US, so back home in North Carolina it's Friday morning, 19 January, at 08:40. See ya on here again later, probably Saturday. :) Bruce ....... oh, my cell phone number in the Philippines will be 0919-2418-443. If calling from the US, add 011-63 before the number. Use it if you must . . . Call me if ... read more

23:31. Still packing and preparing, here at home in Raleigh, NC. I leave for Manila on Continental flight 151, at 05:55 in the morning. I want to use one of my first public blog entry to say THANKS to friend, Daum Austria. With Daum's help, Asia adventure came about. I'm glad I have enough Northwest Airlines World Perks Miles to cover the airfare. (You can't beat $70.00 US for a round trip ticket!) Finishing up everything, then I'll try to sleep for a little while. See you later on the blog! :) Bruce... read more
