Umstead State Park is an oasis of nature sitting on the edge of Raleigh. It is a large, wooded park that is large enough to host an annual marathon and also a 100 mile race. It has been my running home for the last four years. There are both wide roads covered by a finely crushed rock surface and single-track trails winding through the park.
