An entry from Beth I decided to start a blog more as a journal and a way to keep track of my travels through Vietnam. While it is a short trip I hope to maintain this for myself on future journeys I may take... Why Vietnam? There has been a great deal of positive "stuff" I have heard about the country and a whole lot of history that I just feel a draw there. Back in December, my friend Jon mentioned he would be in SE Asia around the same time I wanted to go to Vietnam. Rachael & I had discussed taking a trip like this together, but after some time the idea never came to fruition. Then about 3 weeks ago, Jon got back in touch and I decided last minute that I would ... read more

Update from Patrick (aka O.D.) Been heavy into Thru Hike prep for the past two weeks. We have done some conditioning hikes with about half trail weight packs. Some on the roads and one on a walking trail in Clayton. We have done quite a bit of food prep with dehydration and vacuum packing. We are taking store bought meals in bags like "Lipton Noodles" that are flavored and bags, removing them from the original bag.. Then we place it in a vacuum meal bag and add our own dehydrated veggies, meat and maybe a spice or two. Then vacuum pack it to reduce the space taken up in our pack and keep it weather proof. The next step will be setting up each mail resupply box with the needed meals and any other things we ... read more

Well hello, Haven't written for a couple of days - mostly because our fingers have been frozen! Yup thats right, we got 'stuck' in the middle of a New York snow storm. Our first day was great and we went straight to Time Square on the subway which wasn't as scary as we first thought. The stations are noisy and dirty but once you know your way around they are great as they take you everywhere - well as long as there is a friendly american to show you which way to go. Shopping was great although we had to do a bit of 'window shopping' down 5th Avenue! Our second day was snowing from the moment we got up and was pretty exciting until we realised we weren't equiped for the snow! We ended up ... read more

Okay - so first off - I've gotten a lot of heat (all of it WELL-deserved - ESPECIALLY after all the hype I've given this process!!!) for not getting this whole travelblog thingy in order, as yet - and I'd like to take a quick second to respond to my critics... The thing is - or SHOULD I say - the IRONICAL thing is - trying to document your trip WHILE you're on it can be VERY difficult!!! ESPECIALLY when you're running around, burning the candle on all THREE ends (thanks for that one, Grandpa!) in multiple cities - or countries, for that matter!!! BUT yes - as ironical, paradoxical or difficult as it may be - I will do my best to keep you all apprised of the shenanigans that promise to be my travels ... read more

OK, so... I've learned this site doesn’t have much of a community feel to it. In my opinion, it is unfortunate, that one cannot just browse for the bloggers profiles; I guess I'm just used to more socializing sites... I love the fact that you can have subscribers though, and manage them as well. I was never one for forums so the fact that there is no real time chat capability is a disappointment to me. WELL, I will update again ASAP on past, present and future adventures. ANY WAY, let us get to the real purpose for this post; In my sporadic and sparse travels I have learned only one thing, I NEED TO TRAVEL MORE. This blog, is more than just a blog, it is an invite to all my friends, all my subscribers, ... read more

Noticing that there are few, if any, travel blog entries for our favorite place to come home to - the Capital Region of New York State. The Capital Region is accessible by I-90, Amtrak, and a number of airlines serviced by Albany International Airport. We are about 3 hours from New York City, 4 hours from Montreal, 4 hours from Boston, and 5 hours from Buffalo. I’m posting my impressions of what a visitor can find here where we live. First there is Schenectady, which we love because we see critically acclaimed, professionally produced top notch traveling shows of Broadway plays at Proctor’s Theatre on State Street for less money and less hassle than we have come to expect to find in New York City. Schenectady has wonderful restaurants; great neighborhoods, several lovely historic sections, including ... read more

So today is cold, unlike the last two days have been. I have been over-eating like crazy. Me, Sierra, Rina, Risa, and Anganie were in KFC and my mom called me and told me that I got accepted into the FYSAE. So, I am going to LONDON for this fall's semester! OMG i am so excited. We went shopping to celebrate and I bought the cutest dress with purse and jacket and stuff to match. As for the rest of the day, we're heading into a captioning conference...oooh fun We left the conference early to go to the Wax Museum. THat was pretty cool. They weren't as real as I thought they would be though. But still, I took some pretty amazing pictures with the celebrities. After that was shopping and back to the hotel. We ... read more

We made it! Although with the time difference from west to east it has been another struggle getting over jet lag. We are getting ourselves sorted with tours of the city and today we are going to get ourselves to downtown Time Square... by subway! That should be an experience we will have to write home for. Thank you all for keeping us updated with whats going on at home. Great to hear from everyone. Americans are really friendly so forget what you have heard. We are having a great time and will blog soon. Sam and Nat... read more

We booked this flight to New York last year in November as there was a really cheap flight deal. Now, you all know that I've never been keen on visiting America, pretty much cos I figured I'd get into a fight 5 mins into the country. But everyone said that I'd love New York and this city really did transform both our opinions. From the time we got there it was like visiting a movie set. We landed in Newark in the state of New Jersey which is just across the river (on the west side) from Manhattan (the main borough of New York, which divides 2 rivers) and caught the train to Manhattan going past absolutely MASSIVE yards and yards of industry and what looked like power stations. NY is made up of 5 boroughs: ... read more

When I first saw New York, I was twenty and briefly exchanged dollars with a Joe Pesci toll booth operator. It was September and I was looking for instant metropolitan and instead found construction and traffic and Connecticut. The second time I saw New York, I was twenty-two and it was barely Spring. I had just finished my first job freelancing as a receptionist in reality-tv. It was the flying that did it. I had been living with my parents for the past seven months, saving money. The past seven months all gearing up to one BIG MOMENT. And then, that moment seemed too big to be actually happening and twenty-four hours later, that’s exactly what I was thinking about in my hotel room. It seems like many people consider going to NYC a BIG MOMENT, ... read more
